What are owners doing for tuna storage?

My buddy is pondering a 2820 but is used to under floor storage. I’m doing a little research for him to see what options he might have that current owners use.

    Thx!

Edit: primary function of fish storage will be albacore and bottomfish off Oregon, WA and Canada.

1charter is using a giant ice tote on the deck for storage on a 28. In my 2320 I keep a 30x60 kill bag jammed up front and another one on the deck.

When my friend ordered his 2320, he had Parker install one in front of the fuel tank. He should talk to Parker and see if there is room to put one in the floor, either from the factory or retrofit by a qualified guy. Otherwise the Kill bag is the best option.

30x60 kill bag up front and one on the cabin floor. I don’t know what kind of tuna you are fishing for but that setup holds around a dozen albacore each bag that are well iced. If you cut the heads off and gut before icing you can get even more.

I do not miss infloor fish boxes. It’s much easier cleaning my transome box on my 2320.

I don't know if there is room under the decks on a 2820 for a cool box. On my 2820 the fuel tank runs down the center of the boat from a few feet forward of the transom to the cabin. I doubt if there is room between the tank and the side of the boat with a 21° deadrise. There is a little room under the cabin but not much.....then there is the black water tank that partially fills that space. I use a 160 Yeti Tundra for everything except for tuna and it works just fine as there is lots of deck space on the 28. I haven't had tuna on the boat....just got it late last year. I plan on an appropriate size kill bag/s for that duty.

I'm liking that Ron. Where do you get enough ice and what kind to fill those big boys?

In Westport Wa we just get a tote of shaved from the ice guys then fill each bag 3/4 and the back fish hold. The rest save till we split the catch in two 60 qt coolers.

We use two large ice chest on deck filled with ice. Each is pushed up against the cabin so they can also be used by the crew to lay/sit on. Our Parker also has a fish box below deck right after the bait tank we use to bleed and kill the fish before transferring to the ice chests. Ours is a 2003 2520 and Parker stopped adding the fish boxes sometime after that period.

On our 2520, we put a Pelican heavy duty cooler behind the bait tank with block ice and a smaller cooler in front of the bait tank with food, one block of ice and cubes. With the big tuna in southern Cal currently, I plan to add a kill bag forward on the cabin top with ice or on the front bow area...and, I still have a deck storage box underneath, since our boat is a 2003...:)
