On 08- 09-2017 I trailered the boat from Bakersfield to Mission Bay. i launched and motored over to Pt. Loma because it was reported somewhere on these boards that it was better bait in Pt. Loma. It was windy 10 - 15 out in front, water was green and 69F for eight miles out in front of MB and Point Loma. After messing around awhile we went and ate then got some sleep. At 0300 hours we went to the bait receiver and got a scoop of small uncured sardines and headed to the 226 spot, and from there to the 371. It was windy and snotty, overcast and 73F water. I put out trolls, a Zuker Zuchini on both riggers an Mexican flags on the flat lines. Immediately it was Skipjack city, lots of Skipjack, singles doubles triples, lots of Skipjack. Kept my heading for the Upper Hidden Bank and about half way there it dried up. Water was starting to cool down and wind was picking up. Hardly any radio chatter and we forged on to the Hidden Bank, still nothing. Went east from the Hidden bank for ten miles for nada and started heading back to the 371. No knockdowns and zero kelp anywhere. Upon arrival to the 371 picked up bigger Skipjacks and just north of that, three Doritos all on the Zuchini's. It was getting dark so back to Point Loma I went. Got some sleep and headed back to the bait receiver and got some decent sardines. I headed towards the 181. The water was cold for the first 10 miles starting from 67F and finally getting to 73F five miles short of the 181. Still no paddies but continued north. I saw the Producer and a couple of other sporties out there trolling for miles. No chatter, no fish. This went on for all day. Over to the 182 etc. etc . Around 1400 hours I turned east and started trolling back to MB and around 1500 saw the first paddy of two days. It was dry but not a hallucination. No marks, nothing . Saw some Dolphins within five miles of MB but nothing. Retrieved the boat and after a 340 mile boat ride, had three small Dodo's and some wind burn..... Maybe next time. I burnt 200 gallons of fuel and four gallons of XD100...Ap

Wow, that is really paying some dues right there. You're on deck to hit it out of the park for your next trip! Thanks for the report.

It's all inside 3-15 miles off the beach and moving up the line. Tuesday it was off Enicinitas, Wed it slowed a little, Thursday it was off Dana Point.

    Good report.

New to me boat.. The hull is a 1999!...Almost there. She is now a reliable ride with gobs of power and great sea keeping traits. I have a problem with this new Simrad A/P... I think it is a defective RC42..it is unreliable and has a mind of it's own at times..Still working on that buggy MF everything else is now 'turn key'..............Ap

Thank you. The engines are outfriggingstanding. In flat water they push me up to 50mph. I go places at 30mph, and at troll speed I regularly see 2.5mpg. They dig hard and hook up better than I hoped with the R4X wheels. They do use a little more oil than I thought they would and that XD100 is pricey. With the digital sync, digital troll adjustment, power steering and auto trim I don't know how I got along all of those past years. ..........Ap
