Fish processor’s are full. What to do?

I second the food saver and a fillet knife. I can pack a hundred pounds of fish in a few hours. Never felt good about handing all my catch to someone else and hoping I get it all back. Get pre-made bags. One guy packs them one guy seals them you’ll be done in no time and save a bunch of cash. Then just throw it in a big ice chest and head for home

Oh my bad I didn’t think fisherman’s would be rude, good to know thanks for the clarification In fairness I have had good service from 5 star in the past, seems a great consistent work load is causing some stress

My friend flew in from Minnesota, not knowing the fish processor problem. He was expecting business as usual. Get off the plane, get on the boat, catch his fish, drop them off at the processor for same day pickup, get on the plane in the afternoon and fly home. His boat just got in and they can not find anyone to take care of the fish. He is just going to have to leave them laying on the sidewalk. Such a waste.

If everyone would pick up their fish when the processor calls to pick up instead of leaving them for a few days when it is convenient to pick up, it would help as freezer space is the issue. If they started charging a "storage fee" like $200, that might motivate the fisherman to pick up their catch a little sooner. Something needs to be figured out so they do not start leaving whole fish on the dock because there is no place for them to go.

Update. Went down to help him out and by the time I got there., the skipper had made such a big stink that it was all taken care. Funny how it went from I can not help you to everyone getting taken care of.

There will always be a pelican or two that will take the left over fish. Hell, they will even take them off your pile before the sorting is finished.

That said, I haven't seen too many of them lately. Did someone crack down on them?

So I am driving down with a group of 7 from San Francisco.

The mobile processor will not take fish caught from a sport it. He only does 6-pack or private. Very clear no boats from any of the landings.

The person at Fisherman’s would not take my reservation because they had 2 big long range boats coming in from 8-10 day trips the same morning I am and couldn’t fit me in.

I’ll keep checking, but looks grim.

I read a post the boats are filleting fish to help alleviate the issue. And I have a call into Intrepid Sportfishing explaining the issue. Hope they can help.

Just came in yesterday from a 3 day trip. i had try to make reservation but they would not take them cause i was not on a long range boat. At the dock all 3 told me no at first. No same day no pick up in a few days no shipping the freezers are full. We had a group of 9 so it was a lot. I them saw Sean and talked to him. he said they could do sameday but we needed to do it as a group not each tag. it worked for us so we did it. got the call at 9;45 fish is ready. In all i would not bank on them making it work day of but it may work out, Side not the way 5 star talked to myself and others why i was there they will never get my fish now

I'll be in SD for a couple days after the trip on my motorhome and only need fillets, don't care about packaging. What is up with not filleting on the boats? So far this is crazy. Three boats still do it , it’s the LR boats running shorter trips, are the ones that might have the problem doing it.

fly me up there from PV and Ill do all the cutting/packaging for free. That shit has always been kind of a hobby of mine. Im usually waiting at a friends place when they pull in with a deer or elk psyched to hang and skin it and then come butcher up a few days later. Between the anticipation of an adventure, the actual time spent offshore or afield, the capture kill, and then the work () to properly prepare the prize for the tribe to consume is something that makes me feel worthwhile on this earth. So the offer is out there, get about 3 or 4 of you guys and fly me up the day of your return and Ill be waiting there for your and your fish and in no time youll be on your way home, Ill fly all the guts and shit to jte and let him get rid of em hahahaha, or just drive them out east and dump em in the desert

Try Mario's. Booked same-day for a trip in May with no issue. They were also able to sneak me in without a reservation for a trip last November, after a few people with reservations skunked.

Not sure about the others but try sending a text to FP that includes date of return and vessel. They should get back to you right away. At least they did for me...
