Here's a story .... know a guy named hunter von leer ... he's an actor and was on Dallas (Jd Calhoun)..
He got into fishing and was a regular customer in del Rey before he became a friend that fished with us ...
He wanted records and his girlfriend fariba was as into it as any girl I've ever seen ...they fished all different tourneys in their aluminum and went to Alaska several years in a row to chase records.... one year she caught a world record cod on 16 lb near the end of the trip.
.. on the last day trying for the 16 lb line class record for halibut (which I didn't think was possible) at a little over 100 lbs he decided to use the cod for bait thinking that a record halibut would eat a record cod ...
He said the deckhand butterflied half of it and they dropped it between pinnacles in 300 ft with a breakaway 1 lb weight..
Hit bottom and the usual story about these things they thought they were hung on the bottom immediately ...
And then it started to move...
222 lbs on 16 lb brought up between pinnacles ...
Never would I think that could be done...

41 inch Laker on 10lb Sunline (30lb?) Through a hole on frozen water.

approx 12lb Carp tail hooked on 2lb while crappie jigging.

Approx 22lb carp in 4lb in a river.

Dad before passing caught a 150ish lb Striper on 15lb and TLD5.

My best weight/Line Test ratio so far is a 122# YFT on 40lb at Alijos Rocks in 2010.

A 98# yellowfin on 40# line doesn't stand out here, but its more impressive if you're 11 years old, on your first long range trip, and the fish weighs more than you do.

The best I have is a 44lb WSB on 20lb Premier. The rig I had was a United Composites RUC711H Swimbait Finatic and a Daiwa Lexa 300.

How about this one, my buddy Greg C, with his 262 # bluefin tuna caught on a Trinidad 40, Calstar 700H, and 50 # mono on a popper.. Best part of his catch the first summer that the larger bft arrived back in our waters is that he used his go pro to record the entire fight.. I have posted this here in the past, but if you have not watched the video.. here is the YOUtube link.

Does almost count? We touched the leader so I guess it counts in some circles. Last summer, 250# + bft on 50lb test, 4 1/2 hours just outside of gaffing range 3 times. Had him laid out on the surface just couldn’t reach him with anything more than the longest gaff so they waited for the next circle which didn’t happen. Boat turned towards the fish on a circle and ping. Still looking for redemption for that one...

66# BFT on 15# Trilene Big game and a spinning rod. Worked me like a whore. The line was like a spring when he was done stretching it. Had to respool and caught another on the same line weight. He was 42#. This was last year on the Thunderbird with Jeff.
