I went and paid a visit to the First String website...
    http://firststringfishing.com/

I found out the boat is running overnight-2 day trips out of Pierpoint Landing, despite the website stating it was out of 22nd Street.

I just wanted to gather, what are all of your overall thoughts of the crew, and the boat.

The prices seem for the ticket fair too good to be true?

I've been on this Boat many times in the past years. Always had a Great time and Great fishing. Food was very good(Thanks to Greg) Awesome crew, liked both Captains. So Much room to fish on this boat. Huge bunks, ice cold air-conditioning. I also am not sure who is running boat now but I will be going on trips on this boat this year when it gets to HM landing.

Yeah I saw the First String docked at Pier Point while taking a group of kids on a whale watching field trip 2 weeks ago.....brought back memories of some epic albacore bites like 20 years ago. Would love to get on her again for a 1-1/2 or 2 day out at Tanner or the butterfly.

    Bradley(viper) owns and operates...
Always has run a first class operation and fishes as hard as anyone..
Not sure how they are going to fill 3 overnight boats with the toro, blue horizon and the string at one landing but it should lead to some light loads ...

Don't think Brads an owner any longer.

Lisa his x - wife has been running the show with the help of her father whom owned & financed the boat with her & Brad.

Viper was one of the best I wish he could return to his once great wheelhouse charm and hardcore running.

She is a great platform to fish from and very roomy bunk room and galley.

Support this hard working owner and go fish the First String.

They ran out of 22nd streeet before but isn't that closed or under construction ?

The String has always run out of LA to support kids programs and winter island fishing.

Really really comfortable boat. I caught my first yellowtail on it on a private charter(my 1st time fishing) to SCI when I was 9 years old. I hadnt been on it since then, but went on it for a 3 day 2 years ago. The boat is really nice, I really liked it. And, the crew was awesome too.

Their prices have always been fair, Kai. I cant believe that you havent ridden this boat yet. HUGE fishing deck and galley area. Some staterooms. You'll like it.

Was comin home from sci with pat and Gary(rip) runnin it..was sleeping in a starboard bunk in shitty weather when suddenly we all were thrown on the floor as the boat rolled 90 degrees engines stopped and power went out.. it hesitated for what felt like 4 or 5 seconds then popped back upright...
I made my way up to the wheelhouse and saw pat who normally had red face from sun and other things and he was sheet white and could hardly speak..
Eventually he was able to tell me and Gary about a rogue wave that nearly took us out .....
All three of us agreed it was the scariest moment on the water and we're thankful we were on a boat of that size...
Got it goin and made it home but definitely something I'll never forget..

Fishkilr, that's an experience I can live without ever having, holy crap!

So what is the deal, no drama, just what is up with the First String? H&M still lists it as owned/Captain Bradley Phillips. I called and asked a few weeks ago because it was there like it always has been this time of year with 2 day trips at really reasonable price. I love that boat for many reasons and had one of the best fishing trips boat wide I've ever seen. We had about a 7+ hour drift on 30-60# bluefin that wouldn't stop a few years back. Many of us were so worn out because although they were hungry they wouldn't strike until about 100yds+ from the boat...everyone had long battles. But there we all caught and watched avg 45# bluefin come over the rail fish after fish steady for hours and hours...through lunch and until many of us decided that was enough meat for the year.

Anyways, I called the landing and was only told it's out for the rest of the season. Just hoping to see her back next season and that Capt Brad is doing alright...?

I had a similar bluefin trip on her a few years back when the tuna pens were the place to be for bluefin. All fish were around 50#'s on top. But if you put a 1oz slider and got below they were all 70-90#'s. By early afternoon everyone took off the sliders because no one wanted the long exhausting fight of the big fish anymore. Have you ever been on a trip where anglers intentionally STOPPED targeting the bigger fish?! It was hilarious. I went up top and read a Louis Lamour book and would come down and hook one every hour or so all afternoon. Best bluefin trip of my life.

Whole charter group were current or ex cops except me (last minute fill in). Had a blast and absolutely LOVE that fishing platform, especially the party deck up top!

My old boss said it was sold to a guy for 200k and is looking to restore it. The hull completely rotted out. I saw the pictures of really bad electrolysis. 20 foot sections of Swiss cheese graded holes. Was told looking a million dollar restoration project.
