Got out to Cat this past Sunday trying to get that wsb on my boat was out all day from Orange Rocks to Farnsworth to little Harbor for nothin but sculpies which were amazingly easy to come by and a legal ling. Headed back to church rock for a little soak for some short stuff then jumped into the crowd hanging around the rock quarry and was rewarded with a solid 30lb yellowtail. This is the first good fish I put on rod n gaffed it myself on my 1972 24' skipjack open that needs a new gelcoat lol don't care just wanna fish rn! I'm not quite the fisherman I am on the sporty gotta give it to those guys for their ocean knowledge but I ain't no quit in me ! Love this boat life!!
P.s. Got this guy in tight 3-7 fathoms on a glow lead head with a live squid on my 40# rig. lol I never heard so many pings and other weird high pitched noises as I had at least 15# of drag when this guy picked me up...I was actually a lil bummed or the first few minutes as I thought it was a seal pickin up a bass I had hooked. To my pleasant surprise it was a big ol grumpy forktail that got to break in my new blue water gaff.
P.s.s. In the Grey by Captain Mark Wisch has really given me a lot of insight to private boat fishing as a newbie.

Nice yellow, just be aware only pelagics are allowed to be taken at farnsworth due to the mpa. Even if you caught them elsewhere you cannot be in possession of them while fishing there. You did not say if you kept the sculpins or lingcod but just in case so you know next time. Used to love catching huge sculpins at farnsworth while waiting for the yellowtail to show.

Congrats on the quality yellow. Don't worry about the damn gell coat, a boat is a tool, you can make it shine in Nov and Dec

If it doesn't sink and catches fish for you, then, you are way ahead of some of the shiny yachts who only catch hangovers....:)
