Right place to ask, the vets will chime in. 11 plus months is plenty of time to get dialed in. You are STOKED.

    Wahoo: 40/50 lb gear
    YFT: I'd be covering 60-130
bait making rig which could double for small stuff if encountered

Let the guys with more experience chime in!

A 17 is a big jump for your first trip. See if they have loaner or rental tackle available. The crew will be happy to set you up correctly and other passengers tend to be always willing to help out a rookie. If the boat sells tackle on board buy it as necessary or you can ask the office just before the trip as to what you should bring. Most boats websites have general tackle recommendations but last minute info is usually the best. With this trip under your belt you can then decide how to best spend your $. Good luck. T

Hi Tate, post this on the San Diego Long Range forum. Also try and search for threads with a fellow nicknamed “Nebraska”, he just went for a similar ride and documented it well, as well as the threads leading up his first trip was packed with info.

I caught a 314 pound yft on my first long range trip in 82. Don’t let it indimidate you that it’s a long trip. The crew will be there to assist.
