recently moved to the west coast and just got my boat in the water. Still learning the area and dialing in on the bite. First few trips out around San Diego produced some decent fish. California seems fishy. All fish caught on 5-7" white swimbaits. I didn't pull the Stones from the first ghost, didn't know there were there until after i threw the rack. Luckily bagged a second, albeit smaller, WSB the next time out.

Welcome to CA! You're catching on quickly! White swimbaits definitely work. A lot of guys here fish bait, squid being the mainstay for the seabass. Some guys also use heavier irons at times when anchored.

Yellowtail are very popular with surface irons like a Tady 45 and live sardines/mackerel flylined.

There are some dedicated calico bass guys, and catch and release is very common and important.

This is a great forum you found, and there are plenty of tackle shops to help provide more tips and tricks. I like Squidco and Dana Landing.
