Interested if you would use an unused FG Knot after a year sitting on the shelf

talking about 40# to 100" solid spectra to fluorocarbon for the big(er) bluefin bite going on now (100-plus pounders)

I have several I tied November 2019 and never used them
would you use them in Nov 2020 (a year later)
or retie them

they are awfully pretty to retie - tho I could use the practice...

how long does a properly tied FG knot last before I should retie it

I also have some crimped 200# mono flatfall rigs
tho I feel more confident using these unused from last season

I’d be more concerned with the line being all coiled up for a year. Be sure to stretch it out. Also, 40# is going to be quite challenging on 100-lb fish. Feed them the big line if they’ll eat it.

My wife’s setup is still on the same FG knot I tied maybe 2 years ago and still works fine. Than again she goes out 2-4 times a year.

Re tie with fresh fluoro.

Retie for practice, you’ll only loose a few ft of spectra/mono

Gives you a chance to check the line anyways and always fresh flouro

thanks for all the input - I'm leaving 1.5 days tonite on a bluefin boat out of Seaforth

ICYI:

I tied new FG knots on two 100# rigs, one 80# rig, and one 60# rig (I needed the practice and tied them all several times until I got them the best I could) - and I reset the drags by pulling on bags of weights loaded with the amount of drag I wanted

my 50, 40, 30 rigs I left alone (after I rechecked the drags)

hope the capt finds us some biters...

As mentioned above, if you are fishing livies, change it. As much because of the memory/coil slowing down your 'dine as any other reason. For a jig rod not really a problem.
