My son Phillip and I decided we’d go catching but ended up fishing today for a grand total of one Lizard fish (he did not see the humor in having not been skunked).

We launched at 6:30 from Dana Landing, headed out at 35 knots on fogless flat water stopped West of the 9 Mile bank and found a huge pod of dolphins swimming in clean water around 62 degrees. We never saw it reach 63 degrees all day. Trolled a few different Lures in the spread but never got picked up. We saw Fish on the meter but maybe they had lock jaw after all the crazy big moons? We headed North East back to La Jolla to see if we could have any luck there. Found a light boat up near Del Mar just North of the Scripps MPA line and the flotilla in the usual places. Nada for us but one very large lizard fish.

We did manage (9) Mylar, (2) Latex Balloons and an odd shaped piece of expanded polyethylene foam. Phillip loved filming and being around the dolphins. We did see two whales as well.

Radio chatter got stupid in the afternoon so it sounds like we were not the only ones having difficulty. Phil called it and we headed home at 1:30pm. Boat cleaning commenced earlier than usual and a fun day has ended.
Got some air, sun and quality time with my boy!
    It’s All Good!

Nice day Will. Always nice when we have weather like this and can spend some time with the kids. Doesn't get any better.

You sure it was a lightboat? Was he anchored?

Pretty sure. Huge light assemblies on either side of the boat with enormous bulbs in them. He was anchored on the Northern border of the Scripps protected zone. There was also another commercial boat there anchored without lights that looked like a seiner but did not have a big spool for the nets maybe they work in tandem?

Yup, I’d imagine it’s thick there at night. Especially around his boat. Drag some up to Del Mar or Solana Beach and beyond and I’d bet you’d find a willing biscuit.
Very Small repay for your advice we received. BTW “patties only” / drive thru / Jack in The Box for that morning meal. Buy the night before and save some cash.

You must have retrieved all the balloons. I couldn't find one. Phillip is growing fast, I had the most fun with my three boy's at that age. Good times Will.

awesome! I'm trying to soak up as much as I can before he abandons me, like his older sister has. They'll come back but like Mark Twain said...
