Old guy with lots of arthritis so my shooting is slowing down a lot lately..still like the big boom now and then in both handguns and rifles but interested in getting a 22 mag rifle...I have a 22 mag revolver (Ruger single six) that I enjoy shooting and got a couple of 22 lr rifles but want a 22 mag..got a helll of a buy on a bunch of ammo.

I've heard the CZ is top notch but may be a bit pricy...also heard that for a price point rifle the Savage with the nice trigger is a decent rifle...Any thoughts and also if anyone has a decent used rifle for sale or trade...let me know....never know what might come of it.

    Many thanks

A 30 year old Winchester is an awesome rifle. The Henry is today's version of that. Hand crafted in the USA, at a decent price.

I have 3 - 22 MAG Rifles, the Remington 597, Ruger 10/22 and a Henry; I don't know if its because its a lever action but I believe the Henry is the most accurate and my favorite with open sights. The Ruger is just like the regular 10/22 very rugged and never jams. The Remington 597 is a neat rifle with a synthetic stock that shoots pretty good too. I bought each one in auctions for $300 each or less both the semis were little used and the Henry was new. You don't see the 597s very often and the Rugers are usually $500 or more. I always wanted a Winchester 9422M but they never go for less than $600-700 and I wanted a 22MAG to take down to the Valley fields for coyotes we see while scouting for doves and pheasants. I'm not comfortable using my Mini 14 as its pretty flat and there are just too many people and buildings down there. The trouble now is with the California Lead Ban in affect I haven't been able to find any copper rounds to shoot with and its only a matter of time before I get caught in the field with my pants down and a yote in the back of my truck.

The rifle originally came out in 3 calibers, 22LR, 22mag , and 17 wmr and I know Remington would buy back any 17wmr rifle within a certain time period after they were pulled from the market. I'm not sure of the reason why and whether or not the 22mag was pulled for the same problem.
