Maybe a 25NLD2 for more drag and line capacity. On that rod, I use an Avet MXJ Raptor which fit well. Have used an Okuma Komodo too but prefer the Avet in case the yft exceed #50.

Had 15XN and 15LD2 in the Torque version, kept the 15LD2 for 30#, flylines live bait better. My Torque12 is even better than the 15LD2 for 25#...

Can't comment on the XN as I don't own one, but my two 15LD2 have been great. Good size, good weight, and great performance. Usually run 25 to 30lb line flyline, and biggest to date has been a 55lb YFT. Took a while to get him in on 6lbs of drag, but was running 25lb at the time. Even after repeated runs, I had full confidence and no worries of getting spooled. At the end game, pushing up a bit past strike, but didn't have to goto sunset, and it was game over.

For other reasons, I recently measured the performance on both to compare against spec.

Spec on the 15 is 13#/16#/20# at strike, full, and sunset respectively. Mine measured very close to these values with no loss of freespool. Since I don't plan to use these for anything past 30lbs, these numbers are more than sufficient with plenty of headroom to not have to "max out" the reel.

Can't comment if this would be good for rockfishing, as I don't really do that.

In any case, I don't think you can really go wrong with either. Probably just a personal preference at the end of the day.

    I don’t know anything about that blank you mentioned but I can say the 15xnld2 loaded with 50lb solid to a 25ft 40lb FC top shot is a killer combo. Used a friends on my UC 80 Terminator and caught an 80-90lb yft at the Lupe with it and had no issues. Handled the fish with no problems and never got close to the bottom of the spool

    I liked so much I bought one and set it up the same way

    I have the whole line of torques which are the same size as the fathoms and the 15xnld2 size is one of my favorites. I like the narrow spool and the higher drag ratings you can get out of it over the wider 15ld2. If your worried about capacity, just fill it with maxcuatro and you could probably get 500yds of 50lb on it. I’ve heard of some 100lb tuna being landed on the narrow version at Guadalupe so you know it’s more than capable. Either way you can’t go wrong.

    I use my 15xnld2 for 40-50lb surface bait and slow pitch for deep drop rockfish.

    for 20-30lbs bait, a saltiga/saltist 20 will be better and outcast any lever drag. 2 speed lever drag is overkill for 20-30lb.

    im kind of in a similar situation, should i use a torium 30 or jigmaster for flylining. they are both relatively big reels but they are the smallest ones i have or could borrow

    I'm thinking of picking up a Fathom 15xnld2 or 15ld2 for 20-30# bait for SD tuna and Morro Bay rockfishing..... When I use it for tuna it'll go on a PCH 801H

    Which one and why?
    I was comparing specs on the Fathom15ld2 and torque 15ld2 [about same] and the Talica10ii. Both were about equal except the Talica gets 7"s more per crank. That's about the size of it :)

    Except the Fathom 15Ld2 has a power second gear*. Feels a lot better on bigger fish then the Talica.

    To clarify, IPT rates in "High" and "Low":
    15LD2= 31/15
    15XNLD2= 38/19
    TAC10II= 38/25
