Woke up the family at 5am to head towards MDR and launch the boat for a morning of fun.
Weather was overcast with drizzle but the winds remained pretty light. I’m thankful to have a salty family that loves the ocean like I do!
Stopped to pick up some bait, but captain black told me they raised their prices from 20$ to 30$ a scoop???? Said it was due to their rent going up?
He suggested I don’t buy bait since they only had 3inch anchovy, took his advice. I had about 3 lbs of frozen squid so we decided to just use that.
Headed north and fished 90-120ft of water to try and get the kids on some sandbass. Didn’t take long and my 5 year old was bent. Him and his sister caught a bunch of small fish within 10min of turning off the motor. My oldest son got thumped by a nice sandbass that went over 5lbs on the digital. Just a great day with them on the water and home by 1pm. Hope all you fathers out there enjoyed Sunday as much as I did!

Looks like a great day with the kids. I did the same with mine at Mdr back in the day.. sand bass fishing was so good they would compete on who can catch more. 15 to 20 fish each. All released to fight again. Good memories dad.

I lost both my mom and dad this past year.
Dedicated to making as many special memories with my kids while I have the chance. Life is too short, get salty and spread the love of fishing to all

$20 to$30 for a scoop? That's a great price, not for baby anchovies though! More expensive elsewhere!

Im so sorry for your loss....I know how you feel. I lost my dad, my lifelong fishing teacher and fishing partner 5 years ago on superbowl sunday, then my mom the next year. I miss fishing with him. My son fishes with me sometime, but hes not as passionate about it as me or my dad. So its not quite the same. I took a lot of flak on this site when dad had cancer for a couple years before his death, for “complaining” about our 2-day trip from hell aboard the Eclipse. Cory knows the story. Anyway, do what you can whenevr you can with your loved ones. Its your legacy now, i caught a nice flattie the day before fathers day on the PacDawn and had spread some of my dads ashes out there at the island. I like to think he was blessing me (as God did) with that fish.
