Went over to my friend Johnny's house a bit ago to get a little shrink wrap for a cord handle I just wrapped. Asked him about stabilizing we talked about spar urethane . But he uses clear spray sprint holding it 1 inch away and soaking it. Works great. Now after dry he takes heavy sand paper and sands the cord. (On his rods) Makes it hairy and now looks 100 years old. I said looks like crap. He hands one too me and says feel it. Damn it felt great. Much better than cord stabilized or not. Do I want the better feel and grip or the pristine cord. What to do........ It'll look like crap!!!!

Go with the looks and fish it hard... you'll have your own custom made "comfort" grip in no time.

Function over form every time. Unless you have fishing rods just to look at in your garage...

So the consensus is the older the shaft the smoother and better the feel?
