Today team hoo on the Excel scored 4 cows and many tuna in the 80-140 mark. Not a bad way to start the first full day of tuna fishing. We are now watching the chiefs/new England overtime game on the 2 big screen tv’s onboard. Life is great on the BIG X.

The “light line” was responsible for some big ones on the recent Rooster trip, Lower Banks. Like a Super Cow at 355! Stamina will come into play as well as confidence in our gear, connections and knots. Sano will be the name of the game. Pretty much a drift fishing deal or slide one back if run’n’gun. I’m so frickin ready to get on the boat!
80lb was also the cause of a lot of losses on that same trip.

Flat Clam weather and Cabo within sight, I love that fishing destination.

In the case with 80lb, I think more are lost, than gained. You’ve gotta hook em first, and sometimes they just won’t eat the rope. Quite the predicament these frisky tuna will put a man in. Then again, if everything was easy, everyone would do it.

Thank you for the great reports.
Sounds like a trip you dream of. Awesome boat, top notch crew. And it appears the fish are cooperating.
Look forward to more reports.

This morning the fish aren’t around. It’s 830 and we’re talking a look around. Still early and zero wind. It’s like a lake out here. Last night we watched some of the eclipse. Really a great way to end the day. Most passengers went up top where the light were off. Great group to fish with. More on the water reports to come.

Ok the tuna showed up around 10. Maybe they were partying to much on the eclipse. LOL. Most of the tuna are smaller in weight than yesterday. Tuna from 20-80 lbs with the average going 50-60 lbs. lots of fish in the area. Let’s see if the bigger grade moves in. Stay tuned.

So when folks are talking 80 lb. what the heck are they talking about? 16 strand that breaks at 130? 12 Strand that breaks at 110? Solid that breaks at 100? Light hook, 80 lb. rod, 80 lb. leader? Medium hook, 100 lb. rod. 90-100 lb. leader? Where is their drag set?

Oh ya! What the heck is the current doing?

Update. Wind came up and fishing is slow. Wind against current. So far 2 tuna in the 60lb ranger. We’re going to stay put. There are bigger models in the area. I believe later in the afternoon we need to move out of the wind. My tuna came in on 80lb the other tuna 60lb. Both fly line fish. More to come later.

Another fine fish hits the deck of the BIG X. this one is a 170sh model caught on the helium balloon. Strong work Bob. Other than that it’s a challenging day of fishing. Wind is up and not many passengers are fishing. The big x is a great boat with a great crew. Food continues to be stellar with fresh tuna for dinner last night. More to come. Stay tuned
