Sometimes fish that soaks in
RSW (refrigerated salt water)
will become mushy after 5 or 6 days.

When the fish is a long time in RSW
it can be better to leave skin on filets until you prep them for cooking.

Great right up John. In 2014 when I picked the Phenix Rods 10 day trip aboard the Excel I basically reached into a hat and picked it. No rhyme or reason for it except for the fact I wanted to go on a minimum 10 day trip. I could not have picked a better trip with a great group of guys. I didn't know a swinging dick before I got on the boat. After I got off I had made some friends for life. You put 32 guys on a boat for 10 days everyone has the same common thoughts...to get away from the real world, enjoy life, and catch some fish. I'm already looking forward to next year. We will miss you and Ed. Me, Bart, Danny, Bob, Mark, Bruce, Ric, Stan, Scott, and the rest of the misfits will hold the fort down.

The dynamic on this trip is amazing even with the new guys coming, it just seems to attract a great group! We will miss you guys too!

The trip is officially over, my three boxes of fish from Five Star arrived hard frozen and looking great. Can't wait to start sampling...eating some poke tomorrow!

Well.....2 years I met a couple of guys from New Jersey. They didn't seem all that bright. They had all this fishing gear and didn't know how to use it or what to do with it. So they gave it all to me.

How do you like your Squalls?

I love um. They are my dropper loop rigs. I have 550 yards of 80# Izor solid on them. That gives me room for a long top shot of 60# mono.

When I signed up for this trip I didn't know anyone or anything about long range fishing. It didn't take long for the help and advice to start coming in and continued throughout the trip. Thanks to everyone that helped make this trip more than I could have hoped for. I certainly have a new group of friends that I look forward to keeping in touch with and seeing again in 2018 (can't make next year). And I am proud to be part of the "Jersey Gang"
