Just got back from the #excelsportfishing 2.5 day trip, and couldn’t have asked for a better trip or crew. It was personally my first time aboard the ship but I’ll be back. I believe we had approximately 150bluefij 18-107lbs, and 60 YT.

Day one started off with the boat about 10 miles west of Ensenada, lots of kelps and YT but no bluefin around. We fished and searched around all day until hit that one school at night and it was near if not wide open all you wanted 60lb Bluefin tuna, I went 1 for 5 on my 60lb outfit.

Day two, Captain Justin had informed us the night before that we were going to move up towards San Clemente and that we did, along with the fleet. We were joined by the American angler, Searcher, and a bunch of other boats. We spent all morning searching and picked 3 or 4 off total, then the weather came up about 2:00. By then the private boat fleet scattered and the larger boats were the only ones around. By 8:00, we had started our legitimate search for that one school, and after 2 stops we found it and made a drift on it for about 3-4hours of non stop fish between 15 and 100lbs. We pulled over 100 bluefin on the one stop, one of which was my fish at 107lbs. By the end of the night we had called in the game changer and handed off biting BFT.

Overall this trip was one for the books, wide open night time jig fish that actually wanted to play, and the excel sure fit its name.

Great trip report and pics. Any tactical info to share? Jig types, colors and sizes? Any hooked on live bait or sinker rigs?
Sorry, I had to rewrite this from the Facebook post and forgot that portion.
Night one we had some on sinker rigs, and others on pink and blue 80-100 g colt snipers, and 100-200g flat falls.
Night 2 I don’t think any came on the sinker rig but at the same time I don’t think anyone tried it, and basically everything worked but your best chances for a bite were using small Katy perry colored 100-200g flat falls. I used a 320g nomad Buffalo rigged for my cow BFT with assist hooks and everything and had less bites but more guaranteed hook sets

What happened? Bait or lure? What line and gear were you using?

    Cheers!
Little bit of both, the first night was strictly bait for me, I landed one but as if hits the deck, tim pulled the hook out and it was barbless, it broke in the mouth I just got lucky. Now as for jigs, I had one hooked on 100lb, 400lb leader and make a run under the boat I just couldn't stop it, 33lbs of drag was no match. Other times were just poor hook sets or not reacting properly to the bite. Weather also didnt help
