Hope I don't get into trouble posting this BUT you guys that love ethanol so much would probably give me a pass on this one. Seems to me the only benefit is to a very small percentage of wealthy corn farmers while the rest of us suffer with engine problems and higher costs of "gas". AND I've read that there has been talks about INCREASING the percentage of ethanol to 15%!!!! WTF!!

    Best line in article:
Ethanol diverts corn from the food supply, driving up food costs; it promotes inefficient and harmful land-use strategies; and it can damage small engines. But a more fundamental problem is its high cost when compared with conventional gasoline.

Hang on to your hat boys......I heard they want to be at 30% in 3-5 years. The farmers and mechanics will be living in 24k gold houses. Unbelievable....Swanny

But it looks sooooo good on paper and its environmentally friendly, on the face of things.

Are you suggesting that reality might not be the same as how it's made to appear to the masses?

Biggest travesty in history, diverting food to make inefficient fuel.

I forgot to mention that...Genie is exactly right. Sure the newer motors that are built may take the increased ethanol into account, but think of the MILLIONS of motors out there that were built with no intention of running this soup. like I said in my earlier post.....it's only going to get worse....we all should buy stock in Stabil now....cause we'll be buying it in 55gal drums in a few years.....F***....swanny

I would of read the article but the link read NY Times!!!!! I hate ethanol but not as much as that piece of :shithappens: so-called news publication. The environazis will eventually make it so we can't do anything at all!

Takes more fuel (real fuel with energy density - diesel) to grow & manufacture ethanol than you get out of the process. Is there anything more to say on the matter? And I'd love to hear about a prevailing number of environmentalists (or environazis) that in support of this. I've not seen it. This is about artificial support for the corn growers and a lot of pork barrel BS.

Takes more fuel to manufacture than it produces.

No environazis here, this idea came from the decent notion of homegrown fuel ( before we were awash in our own crude )instead or Arab oil to burn in cars. The idea got high jacked by big business that we subsidized to produce this wastefull shit. Nearly every enviro group of any stature is opposed to the stuff considering all the all the carbon we emit just transporting the ethanol around before it even gets burned. We are stuck with it now that it is on the balance sheets of HUGE corporations. Learn to embrace the subsidies, poor fuel economy and harmful effects, they are here to stay.

I hate it also I buy my E-0 fuel from Grange supply in Issaqah. But don't blame the farmers. They just sell what people want to buy. My uncle is a corn farmer and trust me he is not in the problem it is our Goverment...

I'll bet your uncle never turns down the corn subsidies that the farm lobby has bought for him in congress ...right? Just a poor farmer, bs, no such thing in todays giant agribusiness. His powerful lobby is the problem, not the government.

My uncle is a corn farmer and trust me he is not in the problem it is our Goverment...

    About the farmer...

There are not that many of the family farmers left. Most Ag is now corporate farming.

He has a small farm 300 +/_ acres in Ontario Canada. He changed from soy beans to corn every few years. So may be he ran a little bio- diesel in the tractor>>>Not sure if he got any Canadian subsidies? Doesn't matter now as he has been retired about 10 plus years.
