It just came to me. My dream of spending 2 weeks on my boat at sea along our coast fishing and diving, and preparing/eating my catch off an island at sunset might be illegal! If my filets have to have the skin attached, bullshit, bullshit, etc..

Could this be true or am I just having a nightmare? Tell me I'm sleeping...

I cant see how you could get in trouble unless the game warden came aboard and caught you with the fish in the frying pan.

cooking your legally caught catch is legal...unless you're "trolling" while the grill's getting hot, of course.

    where are the albacore?

as far as i know it is illegal to eat your catch on the boat
but this might just be for sportboats
they way i see it is that it is illegal because when you eat your catch you are decreasing your limit for that day so you could just keep on catching fish and then eating them and you could catch more

Not sure if it's legal or illegal, but I've done it plenty of times. Fire up the BBQ as the sun's setting while your on the hook in a calm harbor. Grilling your freshly caught catch of the day. And a cold one ready to go. Doesn't get any better than that.

I always keep a couple cans of progresso vegetable soup on the boat. You never know when you're going to overnight at the island and a quick fresh fish stew is hard to beat.

    Enjoy yourself. Go for it.

Perfect recipe for fish stew... Thanks..

Just the thought of how we have quite possibly regulated our lifestyle/sport to the point of the ridiculous.

proves how insane this country and its laws have become.

Question, is it legal for me to catch a fish and feed myself, so i can sustain life.

NO SCUM, YOU CAN NOT EAT, YOU MUST DIE. SCUM.

    GOD HELP US.

If it is illegal then they are going to need a bigger ticket book because it was worth it everytime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It really doesn't get any better then eating a fresh fish taco right off the grill on the water!

I do not believe there is anything in the regs requiring you to keep a whole fish, lobsters yes, so just fillet one half of the fish and wrap the rest.

Its not illegal unless you get caught! I see the arguement here and the fact is that if you eat your catch, you actually have less fish in your bag which means you can still catch more. Not to say you would do that, but per DFG that is the way they see it. There are people who will do this just to catch more fish, thus overfishing the population and exceeding their daily bag limit. Just my $.02

It's is completely legal to consume a legal size catch while on you boat. I do it all the time and the day the warden tries to ticket me for doing so they will have a legal battle to deal with.

Don't let them push you around as most of them have NO IDEA what size limits are or what type of fish we even catch. IMO

I suppose you could keep the carcass on board until dinner is complete but that would be about as far as I would go.

    Enjoy the fresh eats :)

IMHO enjoy it! How would one know or be able to prove that the fish that's being grilled wasn't from a previous trip? or a "gift"?

If you take a shit over the side you'll refresh your limit. Only legal 3 miles out, though.

If within 3 miles, keep the skin as you may need to slap it onto the turd to stay legal.

Many of these comments are about what you "could" illegally do if you ate fish on board the boat. Just because you could do an illegal act does not mean that you are doing one by eating your fish.
