Took advantage of the weather window to go fishing with some friends.
Friday I hopped on with Titin Castro, captain of the super panga "Valentina" out of Spa Buena Vista, and we hammered the Dorado by the lighthouse, though nothing giant. Eventually we trolled two hoochies and two Rapala Mag Sticks (one behind a #2 planer.) Both got bit, but the shallow lure went one-for-two on Wahoo. (It's really an amazing bait!). We ended up getting drenched, and cut the day a bit short due to lightning, but had an awesome day nonetheless!

Yesterday I went with Felipe Valdez. Enough said? Jaja! After catching some live bait, we made a short run north near El Cardonal. Once a year, I get a day with him to play, experiment, do my weird shit, ja! Targeting Wahoo, we put out a spread of a skirted Mac behind a #3 planer, a Rapala Mag 40, and two Mag Sticks. Everything got hit, because Felipe finds fish! But the Mag Sticks got hit the most, and landed two of our three keepers.

Dorado and Tuna are the main attractions here now. (Please release small Dorado!)
But keep an open mind. Experiment. Yesterday I had a Wahoo sky five feet, blasting and breaking off my Mag Stick. In 35 feet of water. As I was using a very slow sweep/pause retrieve.
Fishing is fun. Saludos!

I love the experimenting!! it can really make for some unexpected, yet expected memories of certain fish. ocean fish eat just about anything and us anglers try to put limits on what "works" and what doesn't. the fish will decide when and what works as opportunity presents itself. everything I had in my salmon arsenal is now catching all kinds of warm water fish here in PV. Im tweaking some silver horde plugs to see how resilient they can be to bigger fish, but they arent really made that tough so I expect some classic funfilled failures in the near future.

great report, wish we got those wahoo numbers down here like up north!!

Exactly, hermano! You mentioned your salmon arsenal; I'm also using a ton of freshwater tackle and techniques (having a background in bass, pike, muskie.) The crossover potential is endless!
Also, perhaps the market is in need of a more durable horde plug?...... 😉
And there's little better than "classic fun-filled failures," jaja! Not only in the moment or anecdotally, but in terms of education and innovation.
It should have it's own Forum!! 😂🤙

Had a similar encounter w/ a wahoo while working the stickbait a couple months back. Aired out chasing it just 10' from the gunnel, glad that razorblade meat missile didn't jump in the boat hahaha! Straight visceral overload
