Heading down to Rancho Leonero Sept 5th - 8th.

Fishing 3 days.

Plan on just using the rods and reels on the boats there.

I do want to bring just a few feathers,or mega baits.

Any particular trolling lure effective down there that
the boat might not have?

We are "hoping" to try for dodo and wahoo (YFT of course).

Thanks.

I will be about a month behind you...

Are you panga/superpanga or cruiser fishing? I always bring my own gear down. From what I understand now adays, you need to limit yourself to 4 reels and don't bring them in their original packaging. Otherwise Mexican customs is putting import duties on them (based on internet market price).

I bring:
- Assortment of Marlin Lures, Tuna Feathers, Big Rapalas and a couple Marauders (tony the tiger and bonito/skipjack patterns)
- Bait Hooks (big circle hooks for tuna and big J hooks for casting bait on a marlin)
- Leader material - I bring an assortment from 25-60lb flouro
- Sabiki's and some sinkers in-case you need to make bait infront of the marina
- Cash for bait and tipping your captain, crew and fish cleaning
- Ziploc heavy duty freezer bags - gallon size and sharpie pens for labeling

I also bring my own reels with fresh topshots and ready to go:
25lb rig - Avet SX
40lb rig - Avet JX 2speed
50lb rig - Avet HX 2speed
60lb rig - Avet 30x Narrow 2 speed

Borrow a couple add-on trollers from the Ranch, so you can fish the panga with 5. Let the skipper set the spread, and I particularly like the cedar plug on the "way back".
Dorado killer: heavy trolling feather (you can put a 16oz torpedo between swivels) with a dead ballyhoo rigged thru the eyes and uptight into the feather. Dorado killer! Try purpleblack with a ballyhoo. Hit the bouys.

Have fun. Oh and ask Joel to make you a Hornitos Margarita or 10.

We had good luck on the last two trips with an orange/ yellow Happy ending Bush Pig that accounted for two blues and several stripes, and a Black Bart RPP blk/green which accounted for several stripes. A lure that always seems to produce well on Dodo's is a Black Bart Rum Cay Candy in a dark color. We didn't use it much during the last rip due to the tournament.

How'd you do? I'm thinking of going down next week, or this week if I can find a flight, for a few days.

I think its that place on the highway past the first turn into LB with the big neon sign that says "lap sex"; if I remember right. We laughed at that one.
Good luck!
