Rancho Leonero Resort
East Cape BCS, MexicoA report right from the source:
The week of August 1-8, 2015
Water was a constant 86 to 88 degrees. Clear skies and light winds all week.
Air temps were in the low 90s. Afternoons were cloudy; very tropical.
The Bottom Line:
During the just-completed East Cape Bisbee Tournament there were 62 billfish released: 40 blue marlin, 4 black marlin, 13 striped marlin and 5 sailfish. Winning fish was a 409-pound blue that was worth $366,532; second place went to a 389-pounder for $11,000. Biggest yellowfin tuna was 170.3-pounds for a $60,470 prize. Second place YFT weighed 156 pounds.
Yellowfin Tuna – Lots of smaller yellowfin from 5- to 20-pounds are being taken off the inside of the La Ribera drop-off. Sardina is the bait of choice if you can get them; and jigging iron deep has been effective.
Dorado – It was all about billfish and tuna last week.
Roosterfish – The roosterfish have been feeding closer to the south beaches from Los Frailes down. Bigger roosters in the 40- to 50-pound range are still biting consistently.
Meanwhile, back at the Ranch …
Looking forward to another week.
