What size ht-100 washer for under the gear of the 9/0? What about the 4/0w and black 6/0? And also the red 6/0. I know it's a lot, but thanks guys

You Might want to check in the Alan Tani Site for that information.

    Grayson,

We do not recommend an HT-100 washer under the main gear, as others stated your best bet is to check out Alan Tani's site.

I'm about to check on his site. Why do y'all not recommend it under the gear?

On those particular reels, you'll get away by using the same ht-100 washer that you're using in the gear. At times you will have an issue were the top of the stack rubs on the plate, you shouldn't with those...if you did, that's an easy fix.
Hello Tony, if you don't mind, could you elaborate why Penn doesn't recommend using a Carbon Fiber washer for under the gear?
    Thanks for your time.

Grayson / Sal, we recommend keeping the stocked plastic washer under the gear. This was pulled from Alan's site, his explanation is spot on:

"thin penn drag washers - many of the penn ht-100 drag washer are a single sheet with a relatively loose weave. these drag washers include the wahsers found in the 60, the 155, the 307 and the 320. if you put these underneath the main gear, they get seriously flattened over time. they still work, but they do not look good.

thick penn drag washers - these penn ht 100 drag washers have a fiberglass core sandwiched inbetween two layers of carbon fiber. placed underneath the main gear, they hold up just fine. the problem is the extra thickness. sometimes it throws things off. most commonly it makes the main gear bang up against the right side plate, making it difficult to turn the handle."

I see Tony, thank you for getting back to us.
I'm very active on Alan Tani site, my name there is the same as here alto mare. I thought Penn didn't like them period.
We are now using a carbon washer weaved tighter than the ht-100 and thinner.

Btw, 95% of my reels are Penns and I only fish with Penns, I do tweak them a bit.
    Take care, Sal

    Hi Sal,

Not a problem. I visit Alan's site frequently also (don't post though) to see what aftermarket parts / upgrades / improvements are being done to our reels. We will have customers call and and ask questions like, "I just bought a Senator reel on Ebay and it has a stainless gear sleeve and a drag washer under the main gear, and I would like to purchase another set". It keeps me on my toes :)

For the record, Alan is a great guy; I correspond with him regularly, and in the past we have even done some co-billed "events" together at Fisherman's Warehouse in San Jose near his home.

A bit of misunderstanding Steve, my comment was directed to the carbon fiber washer for under the gear.
I don't believe there is one person out there that doesn't like Alan.
    All the best!
