When pulling up to an anchorage, I've seen people on 26-ish foot power boats motor close to shore and make an abrupt turn so the bow is facing back out of the anchorage. Then, they do the following:

1) Drop the stern hook, dragging until they feel some "set"
2) Let out the stern rode big time and motor to the front of the anchorage
3) Drop the bow hook
3) Pull on the stern nylon back until it's about 70% bow, 30% stern rode (all the stern rode is wet from being in the water a second ago)

*Leave some slack for rising and falling tides so you don't snap off your pulpit or break a cleat.

Curious to hear how others do it.
