Broke my Lamiglas downrigger rod at the end of the season and looking to pick up two new downrigger rods soon. Not happy with the quality of the Lamiglas so on to something new. I think I have narrowed it down to either a Gloomis IMX1174 or an Edge SAR360. No local Edge rod dealers, but quality looks good. Any of you use either of these or have input?

Ive heard good things about Rainshadow, but looks like you can only purchase the blanks. I am looking for finished rods.

Charkbait sells finished rods on Rainshadow blanks but a quick look says they are out of stock. I will second the below comment about Thrasher rods. I have 3 and am having a 4th built now but I know they offer finished rods as well.

Lamiglass has a lifetime guarantee. Send it in and they'll replace it. I haven't had any problems with my glasses, and my cousins broke because he stepped on it. They still replaced it no questions asked. How come your Lami's are failing all the time? Just snapping mid-fight??? Wish Okuma had the same guarantee...

The last one broke when I tried to pop it off the downrigger clip. I know, not supposed to do that, but I did. it broke right when the two halves come together. Ive had a few problems with the guides coming loose as well. Can't remember how the other one broke. I did call them thinking some kind of replacement, but whoever I talked to said they do not do that any longer.

Yeah, I guess it has changed, that's sad but typical these days....here is the warranty info. However, I'm guessing a break in the connection point, and guides coming loose would be a "manufacture defect". I guess it depends on how much you want to put into it, and that is probably what they are counting on.....no one willing to do the work...what a shame.

G- Loomis are nice, if you baby them,
I think you should check out Ugly Sticks.
yup, Ive had alot of nice and some expensive rods but when it comes down to it alot of the ugly sticks ive ended up using have always performed very well. for the price, feel and quality I dont think a guy could go wrong until you maybe get the higher end line class, if its a status thing, get it painted and a cool wrap and call it whatever high end rod you want and impress everyone around you!! LOL

It looks like a lot of rod companies have been spun off in WA. Gary was an original developer at Lamiglas. After he left and developed the GLoomis brand, he sold it to Shimano. NFC and Edge rods are his current projects. They've sued each other at least three times. I'd guess that Champion at Thrasher worked for one of them at some time in the past. Loomis casts a big shadow.

I used a 9’ classic glass Lamiglass for 15-20 years until I purchased a mooching setup to use in the downrigger. I currently use a 10’6” GLoomis GL2 paired with an Islander TR3 and absolutely love it. There is no comparison to fighting salmon on them. Once you get the hang of a single action reel and a light rod, you rarely lose a fish, unless it just didn’t get hooked good or you’re not feeling fast enough with a flasher on. I’ve sent one rod in to be replaced after my wife borrowed my car and had my rod in it and she pulled in the driveway and I could see my rod tip dragging below the car. She slammed it in the door and it was broke in two places. They replaced it no questions asked. The other rod I loved was a FethaStyx but they no longer make them. If you can find a GL2 SARBC1065, I would recommend it all day long. Put your levelwinds on eBay and buy an Islander MR3 or TR3 if your budget allows and believe me you will never go back to a levelwind.

I had a Loomis GL2 casting rod style that accidentally made its way to the bottom out at Westport a few years ago. That was my favorite rod. Been using my two spares since. I reached out to Edge rods and looks like no one carries those in stock so unless I find something else I like at Sportco, I will go with the IMX1174.

The gl2 1065 for the win all day everyday. Have had one for 18 years and own 6 others. Landed 70lb halis on them and still fun for coho. Hard to find but there are a few I see from time to time. I also am done with any and all lami-breaks. I mean lamiglas

Edge rods only sells factory direct. I'll be selling my two Edge 10.5' SAR360's as soon as I get them back from repair (bad epoxy of the reel seat causing them to rotate).

Good luck getting Edge/NFC to provide service, I’ve been waiting two months for a guide replacement.

Fished with a Okuma SST 10'6 one piece for a few years. Being a one piece, a bit harder to transport. The tip broke last year, pretty fragile tips. I think it's hard to say these days. I've broken Lamis, Okuma's, G-Loomis....well all not me, but others using my rods as well

Slamiglass at least warranties their rods. Of course you can buy a wet noodle that never breaks, I like a bit of a backbone for control at times while netting/landing the fish....to each their own...

$20 wilderness rods in the bucket at outdoor emporium. Never broke. Foam craps out but I yard my fish in. Caught enough that I don't care about the fight. Just want to bonk them and head home.

I have a few Ugly Sticks and the year before last I had one snap about halfway down (Tiger Elite Jigging 50-100lb) while pulling on 14lb of drag. I did get it replaced under warranty but the replacement they sent had all the guides smashed flat (it was packaged well but was damaged when they shipped it). I had to send that one back and they said they were out of stock. The replacement came about 6 months later. Needless to say, I don’t think I’ll be buying any more Ugly Sticks. I’ve found that Star Rods makes some really lovely rods for not much more money. For an inexpensive but durable rod, Star is my go to now, plus they are much better looking.

@Rhett121 if you break an ugly stick and then look for sympathy or empathy I think you will stand alone. There’s a reason people buy and fish ugly sticks and that reason is simple!!!!! (cheap, cheap, cheap and damn near bulletproof) IF somehow you expect that company to jump on a warranty for a $60 rod that you SOMEHOW broke I think you should look in the mirror for disappointment
