Late post.
Fished the Golden Reef and the Enchanted islands on Sunday 21st and Monday the 22nd.
Golden reef was slow in the early morning on Sunday. We heard the yellowtail were at The Poma island but we wanted to go out to the reef. It was rough and slow. We’ve been there before when the yellowtail start foaming around 11 am. True to form they started right on time. We killed them on big stick baits, poppers , and Madscads. Big bruiser yellowtail on Topwater baits is a blast!! Hit the islands for a little casting for cabrilla in the pm but they weren’t biting.
We were driving back home on Monday so we made a plan fish till 1 pm. So we stayed at the islands. We trolled around la Poma and landed our only yellowtail
for the day. We left there to go search the other islands and fished Choyudo but it was slow. Around 11am we headed back to Poma. The tide changed and the current was pushing bait over the shallows behind La Poma and it was a free for all!! Wide open cabrilla!! They were super aggressive feeding on the bait balls. I’m sure the yellowtail were around because I saw them chasing one of my lures but the star of the show were the monster cabrilla destroying our baits. I only landed one or two got broke off and rocked several times but my buddy killed them. Landing more than a few. Even landing a very nice Barred Pargo. It was a great trip. Probably the last one till October or November. I can’t wait. Now it’s tuna time in SD.
Tight lines!!
