Sorry for the late report, but it's been a busy week.

Last Saturday was one of the most epic tuna bites I have experienced, at least on my boat. We had planned to fish an area near the 289, but about 5-6 miles outside the 277 Stephen spots a bunch of terns diving and fluttering in the gyros, so I make a hard turn and we go check it out. Good call Stephen.

As we get closer, we see jumping tuna and shut the boat down. We chum probably half a scoop of sardines before we even get a bait in the water with a hook in it. For the next 4 hours this stuck to the boat like glue:

And it went wide. I mean, really wide. I mean, we started using our trolling rigs, with straight 60 pound mono, a big hook, a sardine, and fishing our reels in gear right off the corner. No need to cast.

We kept the first 8 fish, and released everything else. I would say between the two of us we released another 20 tuna easy, maybe more, all in the 15 to 30 pound range.

The line for the bucket was long. Everyone had to wait.

I got Stephen to hold up a fish for a second to snap a quick pick, but that was it for the photos. Too hard to stop fishing.

We both caught a fish on just about every rod and reel we had on the boat.....which eventually meant we had to try the spinning gear at the end of the bite.

Hopefully the link to this video works:

So crazy that the best bite of the year, maybe the best tuna bite we have ever had on my boat, was in pumpkin season. To top it off, we came across another big school of tuna on the way back to San Pedro at the end of the day right off the Avalon bank. Unfortunately we were out bait.....and really sore.

    Awesome job man
Funny thing I was in exact same area exact same time. I'm surprised we didn't run into each other. We chased porpoise for a steady bite on 15 leader. Not as wide open as your day by any means but great.

You da man ... as always.

    Crazy!

"The line for the bucket was long. Everyone had to wait." — too funny…

I find the bucket method very effective but just kinda sucks when they are spazzing out and splashes water everywhere.

Like you said before…October yields some of your favorite fishing.

    Great pics and fishing!

Guess you have all the luck. I've had tuna boiling around the boat all year but they won't touch a damn thing with a hook in it! Good for you guys, glad you got into em!

If you look up WFO in the dictionary, well, you basically defined it! You guys should have tried baiting the anchor...

Thanks funny, we saw a beautiful Cabo and I said to Stephen "I think Dave's new Cabo looks just like that." I guess it was you after all!

We need to fish together soon.

Thanks Kurt. Right place right time. I heard Lal and Rich on the way back off of PV fishing bass. I was trying to call them in on the tuna off the Avalon Bank but they didn't respond.....guess they couldn't hear me. Strange.

    Thanks Billy!

Yeah, the bucket method can get hairy when they are all going nuts on the deck and slpashing bloody water all over the cockpit....I like my boat clean!!! Lol.

Ha, ha, line to the bucket Not only an epic report, but a good read too. Nice job guys. Great pics with all the details. Good to hear you threw some back to get bigger and meaner for next season. You got it dialed.
