This could be a game changer... If fish feel the hook piercing their lip, I just don't think I could bare it......

I feel pain reading this thread. Not to long ago I saw a TV show that talked about fish, pain and nerve endings. What I recall is the yes they can feel pain. The interior of their mouths however usually don't have nerve endings. I is felt that they don't have nerve endings in their mouths because they are usually eating something with spines on it, like another fish. I also see to recall that wounds within the mouth usually heel really fast.

This is my favorite part of the article:

According to NOAA Fisheries, more than 80 percent of the seafood consumed in the United States is imported, though a large portion of it is caught by U.S. fishermen and sent overseas for processing before returning to American shores.

This is my answer to my wife about this theme.

"Let me put a hook on your lip and i'll pull on it with my Rod and Reel".
    "What will you do???"
"Come towards me or run away?"
    "Come towards me?"
"Why not go away from me?"
    "Cause it hurts! Right?"
"Oh ok. So, I would guess that the fish mouth does not hurt and that is why it swims away!"
On the other hand I believe on killing and bleeding them the second they hit the deck!

Don't let me get started on how she thinks that catch and release is traumatic to the fish! LMAO!
Still She will eat the hell out of anything I catch. Just doesn't want to know how it got to her plate!

Let me say this: if I couldn't fish, I'd probably be killing people.

I suspect this is true for many of you so I say let's keep fishing.

I always figured that they don’t feel much in their mouth since they eat things that don’t want to be eaten with crunchy, sharp and spiky bits. If they did feel pain in their mouth they’d probably starve to death.

Fish are a lot like us, they wouldn’t get in trouble if they kept their mouth shut.

Some women say it hurts in the butt. Some guys live for it in the butt. Different pokes for different folks.

If you think they feel pain then when you get them on deck and kill em quick. Then again if you feel really strongly about it send me your gear and take up tennis.
