Brought my son, my buddy Jeff and his son out early Sunday out of Dana Pt. Launched at 4:30am and got a nice scoop of dines and a few Macs. Tired of striking out in DP, so ran 2 hours down to about 10 off of Oside, where we found our first paddy at gray light. Jeff gets bit in short order and passed it off to my 7 y/o son, who was ecstatic to see a leaping Dodo at the end of his line! Got that one to the boat and lost the paddy. Doh! I was surprised to see the building chop so early from the West, so I elected to troll towards the 209. We hit a line of kelps about every 10 minutes. About 70% held Dodos, which bit dines, no problem. The interesting thing is that we never saw any fish, Just soaked bait and got bit. None of the usual drive by or jumping action that we usually see. So, if you don't see fish, you may still want to soak bait..... Water was 72-75 today. We finished up around 3 miles east of the 209 around 9:30 am. We had a triple going towards the end. I called out numbers for that kelp that was loaded and biting. Hopefully others put some on as well. We felt that 8 was plenty. We cruised by the 267 to witness the cluster.... Divers, multiple boats on paddies.... Divers later said they saw nothing. The area seemed dead. I know it's a day that my son and I will not forget. Thanks for everything Jeff! Really enjoyed meeting your boy! Great guy! You guys got the permavite.
