I thought you couldn't take a boat from Freedom Boat Club into Mexican waters? I have a buddy that is in the club and been out with him in one of their Parkers. But two boats from the club having major problems on the same day sounds strange. Maybe the FBC employee setting the boats up in the morning screwed something up and the casual fisherman didn't know any better.

Not fake news. I was on the boat that sank. Sport boat by us was the Legend. I don't know what all goes on in the wheelhouse on a sportie so can't attest to what the capt. did or didn't know during the ordeal. And I have no preexisting grudge against this boat. A very special thanks to Scott, James, and Mark on the Real Salty for coming to our aid. We owe you so much.

holy crap.... so what actually caused the boat to sink... being that you where on the boat I would believe your account more than the speculation here on the forum

At least for our boat the prev report of a hatch/cover issue at the stern appear to be correct. I don't have a full debrief from the recovery effort. No time to troubleshoot on the water as the boat lost power quickly and it was a loosing battle on the water side and we kept it upright as long as we could.

Thanks for sharing the info. It would great to hear from the captain of Legend, as to why they didn't offer assistance? You set off Flares, Radio calls, your boat is in view, and I am sure you shouted out, as sound travels over water easily. I find it very hard to believe they didn't see you your distress flares.

Were they still in the area when you finally rolled?

Yes they fished the same spot the entire time. Trolled past us on their way out while we waited for the salvage boat

Holy crap. If I was fishing I would put all my gear down and do whatever I can to get the captain to be a captain.

Hope the cg gives them a call.

It is criminal. And sounds like there were plenty of witnesses. There must be more to the story (anxious to hear) but otherwise, what was that captain thinking?

if they were close enough to id the boat, sportboat was close enough to see what was happening, and hear radio calls. maybe he wasn't monitoring ch 16. might have been on 72 making donkey noises:D

I heard both reports on the radio yesterday. First one was a bit fishing. Guy was in distress, the boat too. He had a hard time following CG instructions. They keep telling him to turn North for intercept course. Felt sorry for the guy, when CG had boat in sight, guy reports they are ok, and proceeding to MB. CG followed into harbor, do not know what happened after that.

This is so typical with society today. No solid proof, no ability to defend themselves and the lynch mob is ready to crucify. There may be a problem and they may have been negligent or there may be another side to the story but come on people let the truth be told before you start putting their name in the headlines as guilty.
