    Which is cheaper/better?
I'm currently on Cox which doesn't carry the Outdoor Channel in my area.
Watch the regular channels like AMC, A&E, PBS and History.
    I have HBO and Showtime.
    1 HD DVR
    Paying $129.45/mo for the TV.
Total bill after phone and internet is $255.18

What you guys got? I could give a rats ass about football, hockey, baseball...

Call & cry to Cox, threaten that you're looking for other service providers & you want your bill reassessed or adjusted & they most likely will do it.....
Add ons I have hbo only, 1 latest & greatest hd dvr, the highest level premier internet, phone, $145
Its worth a shot, till you figure out your next route.
Ask for the customer loyalty dept, they will make discount adjustments & can even offer you current promotions at times to lessen the sting for a while.
    Then, repeat..

They do say dish & direct does offer a better hd signal / picture quality compared to cable but no personal experience as of yet, im sticking with cox as long as I can continue to grind them on pricing..

I have Dish as on now but I received a promo for Direct offering good pricing with some of the usual 3 months free this and that but it does have the NFL Sunday Ticket if you get the Choice Package. Plus you get a $200 Visa Card. Other parts of the say something about equipment lease and 24 agreement. The equipment might be included I need my glassed to read the very small print.

I wish, it's the family package with Disney and Nickelodeon that we never watch.

I already called and cried to cox. They knocked $20 off the bill and would not let me drop the land line.

The main reason I want sat tv is so I can get the outdoor channel to watch myself and the captain Ali Hussainy show.

I thought you lived N of the 8. How is it that you don't have TW cable?
We just got DirectTv and it definitely requires some adjustment. The channels are seemingly randomly scattered over the course of 800 or so channels. Blocks of ppv movie and porno channels interspersed with regular and/or optional channels I think there is a way to (re) organize your "favorites" to make it more usable.
Sometimes, it loses connection with the satellite(s)...:madfire: this has happened at least twice in a week. No olympics last night.
The bill is about $40 less than the previous TW package.

I've used Dish, it was okay, kinda spotty, but it was years ago.
I've used DirecTV, it was better, more reliable, can't remember any signal problems at the same location where we had Dish.
We were never very happy with Cox.
We now have U-Verse 18mb speed with HD cable. Kinda lack luster in the beginning, but it's been fine since the hardware problems we had in the first month of service. They credited a satisfactory chunk of our first bill because of the inconvenience.

Between Dish and DirecTV, I'd go back to DirecTV if I had to lose the U-Verse.

Lost connection to "satellite 1" as opposed to # 2 last night.
I went out and looked at the dish. It's bolted to the garage fascia, 9-10',,,,,facing up at the 2 story next door.....:shake:

Thought I was un-happy with Cock's I was tired of the added cost also.
Switched to U-Verse & gave it a try, was having huge picture quality / pixelation issues using my freshly replaced coaxial & they wanted to re-wire my house using cat5 cable in attempt to rectify the pixelation.
Didn't need anymore added drama as nobody else uses cat5 for cable signal, also they claim more channels in comparison to Cox but nothing was ever on either way!
Switched back to Cox & have been happy ever since.....
If theres ever a problem they always take care of it & they have done extensive coaxial run replacement throughout my house from far side of the outside garage wall through the garage into my attic on the second story & down the entire length of the other side of the house if that makes any sense including replacement of street drops at no cost!

What I did like about u-verse is the zero delay will surfing channels.

Every time I grind them about dropping the land-line they have always stated monthly cost will actually increase as you will lose the "bundle discount"

That sounds rough. We got the wireless setup with just one coaxial to the box, and the tv/internet signals coming out of different wireless routers. The data router is G and is not dual band so signal strength is limited through walls.

Question is wtf are you paying another $130 a month for....
Your tv isnt far off, its everything else that we arent aware of?
multiple land-lines, call waiting, call forward, make me a margarita, multiple modems?

I know none of this really helps with watching the Jason & Ali show but just stating look at where the money is going. Maybe cancel the hbo & showtime for a while while the show series is on? We were suppose to cancel HBO after Game of Thrones & TrueBlood but obviously forgot till your thread came up...
Actually just realized from your thread that it clearly states that cox doesnt carry the outdoor network in your area so this info is all pointless unless Ali records the show for you using his vcr...:D

Hey Rob....do you have HD boxes?

We have one hd box & its the newest Cisco Contour whole home dvr where you can record 6 shows at one time, stores 2 terabytes of recordings.
We have 3 flat screens in the house but only the downstairs living room tv has a cable box.
Only reason we went with the new box is cox tech suggested it may improve picture quality due to the older style boxes are all refurbs & have been through hell...
Well that it did & recording 6 shows has been an awesome feature, we just blast through all commercials while watching all our shows.

Cox has finally become aware that there's lots of competition out there & for some people if approaching them correctly can get some assistance as far as competitive rates...
Customer loyalty dept, call & ask to be transferred, tell them you are canceling as you can no longer afford the ridiculous rates & have something-else lined up...
    Politely of coarse...

If it doesn't work with first person you talk to, repeat...

Who needs a land phone line in this era? All you get are solicitation calls.

What I want is the PAC 12 network, ESPN and Fox Sports. I don't care about NFL as I hate watching people work. So what I want is high speed Internet and college football. The rest I don't watch.

Been contemplating DISH as the offer PAC 12. I thi k they bundle with cable for Internet. Need to check on their second home pricing. I have a 60" Samsung, 480 clear motion Smart TV on the wall at home and it's never been watched.

If you switch to the whole home DVR, you get The Outdoor Channel. I called back in the fall and asked why my in-laws got TOC channel and I didn't (they live in Bonita and I'm less than 5 miles away in Chula Vista) and they said it was because they had the whole home DVR. Once I reminded them that I've been a customer for 20+ years, they agreed to swap out my system with the upgraded WHDVR system with no increase in my bill. BTW, I have 3 phone lines (wife needs them for work), internet, and the whole home DVR with 2 satellite boxes and my bill is $255. Best of all, I get channel 1315 TOC :)
