Because today's forecast was so nice I decided not to go to work. it seemed like a good day to start this rebuild.

First I got rid of the GlasPly stickers. They were actually kind of a pain, they would not peel off even with a razor they just kind of crumbled up. So I just put some 80 grit on the sander and removed them the hard way.

Then I pulled off the nasty old rub rail. I had to drill out all the rivets. It wasn't too difficult but it wasn't too fun either.

After that I decided to get into the glass work. So I sanded down the two areas on the keel I knew needed work. The small one was much worse than I thought. It turned out to be a dime-sized hole crushed right through the glass. but the gel coat was kind of holding everything together still. The center keel was still intact but had just been crunched up a bit. I laid my cloth out marked it, cut it, and laid three layers down. I got away with a west systems repair kit for all the glass work.

Next I sanded down the area all around where the rub rail was. It had a very pronounced lip. After that I took a wire brush and I cleaned out that slot where the rub rail was.

Then I decided to fare everything up. I mixed it up went over the whole boat trying to get every little scratch and ding and I filled up that Gap where the rub rail used to be as well as some of the small holes here and there.

Now I'm just waiting for everything to dry so I can sand it and then bring it inside for paint.

The best part about it is that I wasn't working and the ribs were cooking the whole time.

I learned a lot today about fairing. I had plenty of time to contemplate while I sanded and sanded and sanded and sanded... Less is definitely more here.

It was a bear to wrestle this thing into the house by myself but I got it

I wiped everything down with acetone and then took a quick shower to knock all the dust off myself. Now I'm gonna try and put my first coat of paint down.

Wish me luck

It's not perfect or amazing. But I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It's honestly the first time I have painted anything. It looks good at 3 feet but if you get closer you can start to see the imperfections in my fairing job... Oh well I guess.

It also doesn't actually look that color. I will get some pictures in natural light tomorrow.

That's enough for today!!

Flipped it and put 3 more coats of paint on the gunnels yesterday/last night.

Finished modifying FRANKENTRAILER today and then conscripted the neighbors help to get the old girl out of my dining room and back outside and on the trailer.

I'm gonna grab the chartplotter tomorrow and install it. I also need to install the battery somewhere...

Hopefully I am fishing early next week!

You should have at least a tandem axle trailer with EOH for that. 👍

Looks to me you are going to need a 20ft tongue on that trailer to get the boat to float off as high it is sitting. Maybe run the bunks with the boat . lol

Sharkster has a good point. You're going to have to put half your truck in the water to launch that. Hopefully it's light enough to muscle it in....

That will be a CQ killer.....great job Andre..

Today I installed the chartplotter. I cutout an access hatch and installed the battery in the bow. And installed hardware to strap the tank down.

I still need to figure out how to build rod holders and where to mount them but it's water worthy now!!

    .

With that ship, you should have no problem getting this attachement.
Just find her a seat, she will hold your rod!
