Starting to get tired of saying "just being on the ocean is awesome enough", for the last 4 BFT boat rides and I needed to actually catch some fish! Linz and I had a window on Wednesday for a little father/daughter fishing time. Unfortunately the conditions were not what I like to take her fishing in, but we gave it a shot.

4 foot short interval West swell, with wind gusting to 20 in the afternoon, sheesh! She crawled into the cuddy for the ride down from Shelter Island, crawled out looking pale just as we were arriving at the Rockpile. Not feeling well, but she toughed it out!

Baracuda, bonita, and yellowtails wanted to die in the slop. Felt good to hear the reel sing and actually catch something! 6 sport boats eventually anchored on the two main highspots, we drifted off the Northernmost all morning long. Many double hookups on each drift. Caught two 18 pound yellowtail here on 25# test, big enough for working Linz over in her weakened state. "I can't both hold the rod and crank the reel, Dad!"

About 10:30 AM decided we would head in, but a huge bird school and lots of surface feeders showed, and I tossed the minty fresh for awhile. Headed back towards the Coronados, and trolled once up the South Island with a halco and blue xrap. Only bonies on the halco, but 5-8# yellowtail would jump on the xrap over and over. Kept 3 bleeders out of at least 8 rats.

Linz finally ate something when I was cutting fish in the bay. She is pretty tough! Feels good to make a report again. Looks like the North San Diego county is starting to get busy like just last year! I think the local tuna will go wide soon!

How cool is it that we have the ability to capture times like this. Love it, thanks for sharing.

Super cool! What a trooper your daughter is, and a slayer too! Time spent on the water (or anywhere) with family is priceless and precious and the moments are to be savored. Plus - it's a big bonus to get some fish on the deck!

Great job dad! Reminds me of when my son was that age. Now he's bigger than me!

PS - What's with the dudes in the red skiff? Looks like they are dropping the hook right off of your stern....

Thanks Cory, BFT was taking over my life! Or I should say lack of BFT and thinking about what I can do to increase my chances was taking over my life. Bonita salad (like tuna salad) last night and YT fish tacos for the wife's B-day on Sunday! Fill up the lobster bait cages, put them in the freezer, and I'm ready to return to the tuna!

Thanks Cody, The ride home into the wind was like surfing with your clothes on!

I agree Tim, I'm sure I'll be enjoying my videos in the nursing home in a couple decades!

I wish I needed one of those Stevo. There are two kill boxes that I once barely fit 20, 25#YFT and lots of ice in two years ago, I think I'm good... BUT, WAIT A MINUTE... WHAT IF ONE OF THOSE 200# BFT FINALLY BITES MY ROOSTA POPPER?.. Stop... breathe...

Not so sure about that BL, but she is an awesome daughter!!!!! I had way more of a relaxed fun time fishing with her, than all my buddies on the last couple of BFT trips!

Thanks Mark, my boys did it when they were young, now they are too busy making $ to fish, so I hope Linz sticks with it. You are a brave Dad, taking your daughter on a sport boat with a bunch of sketchy fishermen! I hope you have properly vetted the dude leering at her!

Hey Mike, I was drifting hooked a YT, not paying attention, and as I glance around the pangueros just appeared. They were tending a couple of traps on the rockpile. They said howdy. On the way back to the islands we passed a tender towing a tuna pen up to the lee of the South Island.

Good luck Ben, ocean conditions will be much better for you! If it wasn't for Linz feeling queezy, I'm sure we would have limited on the good sized YT. Get there EARLY!

Can't wait to take Evan and ruby out to the islands like that. I'm thinking Evan will be ready next year. Does pretty good on the local stuff and he's just 3.

Nice work on the fish! :hali_olutta:
