Determining Line Ratings

Does anyone know or have a method to identify the line (and maybe even lure) rating for unidentified blanks? I have several older rods I'll never use in their current state, so my plan is strip and re-wrap them over time, but many don't have line ratings. Is there a trick to figuring that out, or is more of a feel thing?

It’s a feel thing. Compare with rods you know line rating.

Yes a feel thing.You can't really trust all line ratings on a lot of rods anyway.

Measure the force it takes to bend it. Fully loaded would be a drag setting. Multiply that by 2 or 3.
I used to follow the 1/3rd rule religiously but been riding the line of half lately and beginning to prefer it.
