Short story!! 1-2 for a 85# 45 minute beating!!! We left on Marty's 45 ft Sierra. Got a good mix of dines few chovy off we went stopped on back side of Catalina. On a squid spot from 1-2:30 am caught a few pieces!! Off to SCI. We found the good spot. Set upon 354 feet. First drop on squid in grey got a run Rick fought for 1 hour plus. Then out of nowhere his torium ceased up line pops!!! I had to stop him from throwing it at Desperation, in DESPERATION!!!! Will find out what happened. Anyway. A stray 20 inch wsb. Was released. A long time of chumming and throwing jigs. We ran low on squid. Two pieces left around 10:30 I get to use a squid ( my B day n all) I used a slider and was down at 200 easy. Get smoked!!! I m not losing my fish. 45 min fly gaffes in head!!! In stomach only squid!!! So in short I think they really want squid!!! Caught with 2/0 owner circle on straigh 50 mono in green. Thanks for fun B-day guys!! Marty Love the new upholstery !!!

Word of Caution on the reef. We had to help a boat Tale Spin. Someone lost a huge anchor!!! Had to be like a large sport fisher. They got there gear tangled into. With both boats we could not pull free so they had to cut!!! We marked with small polyball!! Yellow. Keep clear!!! Had tons of fishing line and everything!!! I reported it to fishn wildlife!!! Can only imagine how many fish must be of have been wrapped !!! TL. Btw we saw tons of yft off east end of cat. Coming back. But needed to get in. Did not stop.

No. But did see a ship. But they left us alone. That was last week. I believe even that was cut short. Get out. The conditions there are not what they where two weeks ago. But I plan to make the run tomorrow nite. Make squid Thursday nite fish ridge Friday. It's very imperative to get squid I believe. Bring frozen to chum. We heard of our friends getting a 125 # on frozen then pull guts out the side leaving head attached. Then shove a lively sardine up into it then pin the squid and sardine together and it vibrates and looks alive. But get it done fast and redo often as sardine dies fast. TL

Desperation area was closed Tuesday 9/13. Congrats on the fish but the Navy is not happy with boats violating the closures and even if you are not asked to leave these instances are noted. These events may lead to the permanent closure of the area.
