After a year of jonzing to go get my deer after last year multiple misses I headed to my guarntee hole with my friend Matt. Slept in knowing everyone would early hunt, go home middle of the day, then come back at night.

My idea worked. Only saw one truck headed up and never again. Had the entire place to ourselves. Matts never downed a deer so the first one we come across is his then it's game on, first see first kill. Well he missed a giant doe and it ran. Shortly after, approximately 2 hours after hitting the woods and a nice hike I spot two.

Here's the real story. I take a whack at the deer and miss way over its back. My brain told me 25 yards. It was actually 40ish. No idea why this happened. The thump of the arrow made the deer take off. I go after it. After a few hundred yard I spot her broad side looking at me. Used my brain and decided on the range finder. 52 yards. Take the shot, boom! Deer looked dazed and walked away. Fire hydrant style blood trail.

I meet back up with Matt, dropped my bow off at the vehicle. Have a adult beverage. And say ok that's enough time lets go.

We find the arrow dripping in blood stuck to a tree. Only tie two ribbons on the blood trail before we find the deer. Perfect lung then heart then lung shot. Decent size doe. You can't eat horns and I have fishing to get back to.

The kicker is the deer literally doubled back a bit and fell on my missed arrow that I thought was gone forever so I got both arrows back!!!

Deer is hung, cleaned, and chilled ready for butchering tomorrow.

Deer total was 17 seen 2 shot at and 1 down. No grouse seen.

Good luck this season everyone be safe!

Congrats, .....just hope the bambi lovers don't use these picks for their cause. Nothing wrong with harvesting a doe in my book, should be nice table fare for the winter to come. Nothing wrong with a bit of deer blood on the bare hands.......

Nice shot and will be a nice addition to the freezer.....

I know she's not the biggest but she dressed 50 at the butcher which I'm more than happy about. Now time to get back to fishing and scouting for elk.
