    Hey BD!

Happy New Year to all. Hope you guys have had a great 2018 season! Here’s to an even better 2019.

    Short version:
    —Yellows at the 150

    Long version:
—Hopped on the last trip of 2018 on my favorite local 1/2 day boat, the Western Pride. With Mike as captain, we headed towards the 150 spot with 67 eager anglers. This was my third trip this week so I didn’t expect anything different—quick limits of white fish and maybe a sheephead.

Off the bat, there was definitely something big in the water. Dropped my usual rig down and even the little white fish didn’t wanna bite! 20 min goes by and someone snags a 20lb halibut... Explains why nothing else wanted to bite on the bottom.

Around 11am, we start seeing a big bird school form around 75-100yards away from us. The capt tells me he just metered a school of yellows swim under us. I frantically tie a mint and white Tady 4/0 and after the 20th cast I finally get the perfect cast—right into the boils. 5 cranks later and I’m tight. 5 min later we land our first yellow. At this point there’s three other party boats running over the school and the fish are gone. Overall, blessed to get a chance to see these fish, and even luckier to get one!

    What worked:
-Trinidad 16a (300 yards of 65lb PP white)
    -Super seeker 6480H
-5 ft of 40lb izor mono
    -Mint and white Tady 4/0
-Long casts into the schools, 15 count then wind.

Get out there and fish! Tight lines

Nothing better than chucking jigs with 67 other anglers to get the blood boiling and keep you warm, :Beat_Them
