So many of us have the same experiences with this issue. I banned a guy from my boat for a couple years of fishing after he pulled the "no cash and gotta go" trick on me. I always make it clear to ALL that we ALL (including me, the guy who bought the $70K worth of boat) equally share expenses and nobody leaves until the boat is clean. We also share all catch.

An added insurance policy is the Square credit card reader that attaches to your phone. I always have it on hand with my account set up to receive funds. I'd rather pay a small percentage to get the guys share rather than getting stiffed. Everyone carries a credit card or ATM card. I don't buy the forgot wallet trick.

I do tend to stick with known buddies that are proven, though sometimes you need to give others a chance.

I’m still amazed that people take strangers out on their boat. I don’t get it.

Its nice meeting new people that like to do what you do. Ive been on charter boats and met some really cool dudes that I wouldn’t mind fishing with again. I always get home after and say to myself ‘man, I shoulda got that guys number.’ Even if its to get on another sport boat with.

Back in a past lifetime when I had a boat the launch ramp was right by the sort boat landing. Could fish everyday if I wanted to so if there was a day when I just wanted to talk to while fishing I'd ask random guys walking by to go on the half day if they wanted to go with me. Meet some really cool fisherman and some would offer me money some wouldn't but I never asked. Kinda weird I know but sometimes fishing alone would suck
Working stiff now and no boat. Life changes.
Not paying your share is a dick move but was cool in that situation

I truly have been "blessed" with good fishing buddy's... they always have $ ready before we go(and always ask at the end of trips if what they gave was enough)... never had to ask one time with them all... always help clean the boat/fish...and are a fun bunch to fish with... so I will put there BD names here so if any of you all get a PM from them wanting to go with you... they are truly good people!

On average Is it cheaper to sail on an open party trip rather than pay a fair share on some one else's boat?
