Hey everyone, So we made the trip from Las Vegas down to Dana Point this weekend. I was well worth the drive. We had amazing weather and bait that was the best. Short story We ended up with 4 15- 25 pound Yellowtail and an 8 pound Bonita. Sunday- We left Las Vegas at 3 am with plans to head for Dana. Goat a great tip from Captain Dave Hansen. Thank you Captain for all your advice. You are a stand up guy. We arrived at Dana Point at 8 am to a nice wide open launch ramp. Launched and headed for the bait dock. Picked up the most beautiful Sardines I have seen in a long time. Left the harbor and headed out 4 miles and then turned south. Found several paddies with no one home. My buddy then hooks up with the fat Bonita on the troll. after landing it I saw a beautiful paddy in the distance. We made our way and the Yellows were jumping out of the water. It was such an awesome sight. There was another boat just off it as well. As we made our way towards the area the skipper called me in and said it was wide open. We slid in up swell and was bit right away. After a few miss steps and a couple fish were lost I landed my first Yellowtail on MY Boat. It was such an amazing feeling. The wind was starting to blow pretty good and we were out of live bait so we made our way in. Monday - Plan was to hit the same area again. We headed out and with in an hour we found several paddies again. We slid in on one the size of a trash can lid and all hell broke loose. We hooked up right away. My buddy hooked his biggest and first yellow that went 25 pounds. I landed another beautiful fish also. After landing mine my buddies got in the paddy and wrapped him up good. We had to go in and pull him out. Water was a beautiful 70 degrees and super clean. The further south we headed the water temps started dropping. We headed back north and that were we found another paddy with a fish on it. My buddy sent out a bait and instant hook up. He landed his second yellow of the weekend. All in all it was an amazing trip and I can not wait to get out there again soon. So well worth the drive.
