Inshore Dana point 3/12/23 Sandbass wide open

Launched at 0730 from Dana Point. Lake Pacific till 11. Water 57. Color brown and murky with visibility 5-10 feet. Went looking for squid. Nothing. Went looking for sculpin - sand bass pulled up almost every time when the bait wasnt picked off. Descended them all.

130 feet near San Mateo. Single dropper 3/0 circle hook on squid and shrimp.

Two good sized vermillion hooked. Cursed the new rules. Descended. Those were the shallowest Ive caught vermillion in DP for us.

Shoot I misread the title as "wide open seabass" and was about to crap myself. That's a quality toad right there though! Nice job

Even though we aren't getting the WO spawn Barred Bass bites in summer, we sure are seeing alot caught in winter that are hanging with the Calicos. This winter I catch 2 Barred Bass to 1 Calico.

I could make fresh fish tacos of both, feed you a taco, I guarantee you could not tell the difference, nor would you care.

I'm starting to wonder if the sand bass are coming back. So many caught this winter I wouldn't be too shocked to see them school up on the flats this spring

Wow. Ground fish season closed an extra month. I'm all for conservation, but this is ridiculous for recreational anglers. People better wake up or the crazies will be pushing to ban sport fishing permanently.

Anyone else remember when we were told MLPAs would be temporary?

Technically if they open up again, someday, then it was temporary. It just depends on how long you consider temporary.
For me a year or two would have been temporary. For others, it's 100 years or more.
