11-16 saw them bft on the 14. we got one on a popper, a one on a mackeral while drifting. 45 and 55lb. late start. 1045 and 1:45 were bite times.

11-17 cleared jetty at 2:30 late start. headed straight out. found the birds and some sort of tuna crashing all around. none came out of the water, so I don't know how big they were, but a few solid boils about 3:30. no biters. 33.17.959 117.46.196 - got the fish south of the 14 on 11-16. so went south of the 267 and they were there. just not biting, but we didn't have much time, hit the barn at 6pm in the dark. it was eire out there, I was getting strange radar readings???

mackeral at red bouy want bait. chum and they are easy to catch. slightly weighted worked better.

How was trying to pump the Bluefin on what appears to be
an all-purpose (jigs, iron, top water, bottom) 8 foot stick?
Mind sharing the make/model of the 8 foot stick?
Just don't tell me it's 8'6" or 9 feet.
Great job!

I bought the blank in the 1970's at the Bent Rod off Redhill and wrapped the rod myself. I think it is a sabre, if not I would remember the name if you knew what else they sold back then.

the rod does have a nice backbone if you pull hard enough, embarrassing to say I took about 50 minutes to land the 55lb fish on 50 pound test. I was being extra careful, I wanted to land it, but my old ass still took a beating.

I have an old Sabre from the late 1960's which I bought at REDS Bait and Tackle in Redondo Beach, was in the corner of the old MOHAWK gas station. Where has the time gone?! I can't even remember the model of my 8' Sabre either so don't feel bad. I've had it wrapped so many times I've lost count. Bottom line is you caught the fish, and hopefully your lower back didn't take a big hit. Take care. John.

Good job luckyjohn.

I went from to 279 then 14 that day. I saw fish deep on the sonar at 279 lots of small Dolphin jumping. The only thing I saw at 14 was huge bait balls. I was out early, back in at 1:00. Late bite is the news.

Storm seemed light, maybe a trip on Saturday?
