My buddy Jack caused us to launch late out of Dana point. Cleared the harbor about 12. 73.8-74.3 all day. Went about 10 miles out for the first “can’t see land” trip on the skiff. Found a couple paddies holding tons of bait. Nothing else. Headed south, found the group following whales. Played with them for a few and continued on. Continued south west stopping in multiple paddies. They all had lots of life but not the right kind. No bait tank so we just threw irons all day. Trolled on the way in for nada. Built some confidence in the lil lady for future and further offshore trips.

Take that skiff to SD and find more loaded paddies down there.

Dana Point is far more miss than hit. The fish end up staying west of San Clemente or Catalina island. Some get lucky from time to time, but you'll note how there are very little "limited on yellowfin/bluefin" posts coming from OC and LA.

We get a lot more cold water tolerant fish, such as calico, barracuda, yellowtail and bonito.
