Hey BD, looking for some opinions/advice...I have a proteus prtb76xhf and I want to match it with a Shimano Speedmaster 20II and would have 100lb. braid on the reel with a short topshot of 80lb. fluorocarbon. I searched the archives and read that this rod could be a 60lb. rod. But do you guys or gals think the above setup is too heavy for this rod - as part of an 80lb. outfit?

I of course have pulled on it and it's a broomstick. If I put a Speedmaster 16II with 80lb. braid and short 60lb. f.c. topshot I'd be comfortable. I just wanna know if I can save money by not buying another rod for an 80lb outfit. Most specifically, can this rod handle the 100lb. braid mainline? I know it's rated 70-120lb. braid but just want some opinions...

Thanks in advance for any responses!,
'Lance

I’ve got one of those and like it for 50/60. I’d find a heavier stick for 80/100, or rent one if you’re chartering infrequently...
