i have been looking for a thread but can,t find one so here it is.i have just added a pilot house to my boat just after i purchased it and was not sure of the performances before and after

what the rpm and cruising speed are you guys running at with a standard 280/290 and a dual prop
assuming my v8 engine is a 230hp i have been running 3500 rpm,s at a speed of around 27 mph (gps) not too sure if this is good or not ?

what kind of fuel mileage are you getting with either combo,s and do you think a dual prop is worth the extra money ?

what do you think the limit is on rpm for a long period of time
and what do think the optimum rpm is to get the best mileage ?

thanks for your input in advance

We run ours at 3000.
IMHO 3500 is pushing the 350 too hard due to there is a huge difference in the sound of how hard the engine is working.

i was thinking i was only getting 1 mpg maybe so at 3500 rpm so if i got around 2 mpg i would be happy and now i know i should keep it around 3000 rpm
i am still thinking of going dual prop if i can find a 280 DP at the right price,i have read that a 290 DP is not a direct bolt on and if i did put on a 290 DP i would need to install a hydrolic pump and rams
    thanks for your help

FlowScan (or one of the other fuel monitoring systems). Easy to install and you'll never have to guess.

    Yep............
It will let you know when you have the trim tabs dialed in.
It will also let you know when your secondaries open up on the carb (dumping gas).

this is my rig i don,t expect to get the mpg most open 24,s get due to the pilot house and extra weight

I have 20ft open with 305 engine 4 barrel carb , 290DP with B4 prop. Just install lowrance fuel flow sensor. Got 3.6gpm at 3000rpm.

that's awesome hoping to get close to that but doubtful
did you have to have the lorance display for the sensor or is it a stand alone
    unit ?
at one point i was thinking of changing to a two barrel carb instead of four barrel but i think with a fuel sensor it will keep me from getting on it

Yes, I have Lowrance HDS10 unit with fuel flow sensor hook up to it . I have not finish doing cabriation yet. But when I refuel seem very close to what the unit says total fuel used. My boat does not have hard top or pilot house.
