We made the run to fish Crowley Last weekend and had a great time.

We stayed in Bishop at the Creekside Inn which was amazing. It's right next to the bowling alley which has excellent steak and prime rib dinners for cheap, Schats is next door and across the street is Holy Smokes BBQ which is very good. It's only 25 mins to Crowley. Another tip is Crowley General Store at the Crowley turn off which has excellent home made breakfast burritos and home made muffins they bake daily. Even the read fort heir sandwiches is baked in house. Sweet people too and they sell Sierra Drifters flies.

The weather this weekend was fair given a cold front approaching but for spring no complaining. It was clear and cool with the usual wind by 2:00 that blew us off the lake.

We rented a flat bottom boat both days and set up a portable fish finder which was invaluable. The marina has some flat bottom boats with steering and fish finders this year that rent for $175. The base model with 30hp pull starts like we used to for $100.

The lake has been drawn down to be ready for runoff. There are two islands off Hilton that showed up and the marina is at minimum water levels.

The majority of boats were fishing Sandy Pt and Christmas Bay. Saturday there were dozens in there. We started on the other side of the point off Stormy and used the meter to find some fish at 19' and threw the anchor. We started getting grabs immediately and landed a couple of nice fish on the copper tiger #16 on 5x tipper either suspended 4' or right on the bottom. We made a lot of moves. If we weren't getting grabs or seeing fish on the meter we made a.move which is what you need to do this time of year. There are already plenty of chronomid flies around so the lake is ready to get going once it warms. For us it seemed like 15' started perch mixed with nice browns and 20' started the rainbows with a few browns and no perch. No Cutts for us. Water temp was 57 at sandy, 56 at McGee.

Here are a few pics of my fiancé who just took fly fishing up last year and now she's a great pal.
