My wife got a call today from her father from the hospital. He was out in the bay crabbing out of Bandon, Oregon this morning and was hit by a rogue wave. He was setting his pots and saw it last minute and attempted to steer into it but could not get turned in time. His boat(a 20ft aluminum with offshore bracket) was capsized. His friend was thrown clean but he and his wife were caught under the boat. My mother in law panicked and would not swim out from under the boat. He eventually had to shove her under and swim her out. Someone saw it happen and called 911, the coast guard was already on the water and came to the rescue. They were in the water for about 15 minutes. The two men were fine but my mother in law got pretty cold and swallowed a bunch of saltwater, she should be fine but they are keeping her overnight for monitoring. I don't know much about the bay there but believe it is pretty protected. The sheriff pulled their boat out for them, not sure how hard it is to right a capsized boat. Just glad everyone is safe.

Good to hear everyone will be okay! The sea is an unforgiving mistress. They were very fortunate to have help close by.

Jeebus. Start this off with, "everyone is all right, but...". My heart sank and then I was super happy for you. Tough deal, but glad for the outcome. Whew!

I agree with Nosecrets. Poor response Apogee

Glad to hear everyone should be fine Stephen. Sucks it happened, but glad it's only property that was lost.

Oh, and pay no mind to the Kali fuckheads spewing their drivel. Fucking know-it-alls are so stupid they have to try extra hard to convince others they even have a clue.

I got an update that they were crabbing in coos bay in protected water when they were hit by an unexpected large wave. Sad part is my father in law is very selective on the days he goes out as he has bad knees. Thanks for the well wishes. It has been a stressful day for my wife and her family.

@apogee- Glad you are here to explain exactly what happened now go find another thread to crap on.

Glad it all worked out, just curious if they were wearing PFDs or not. That water had to be cold.
