It appears that there is a great offshore weather window starting late Thursday out around the Cortez/Tanner. The pressure has been so great inside I am seriously contemplating a departure from Davies on Thursday. I think trolling speed to conserve fuel, from the west end of Catalina until dark, stopping at Cortez on Friday morning and working the area. If it is good and the weather remains nice I will spend the night 100 miles offshore and do it again on Saturday before I make a run back home or to Desparation Reef for the 0400 possibilities The USN has kindly opened up Pyramid on Saturday. I have not put a crew together for this adventure as of yet, but I will load and prep the boat...........Ap.

I don't see any window on Friday. In fact, it says you're going to be dealing with 8 foot swell on a 9 second period, with 25 winds, which will probably produce 10 feet breaking waves. Thursday looks okay for swell, but has wind up to 20. Sunday seems to be the best window but swell is still bad at 9 second 6 feet.

I was out on the Pacific Dawn Saturday night and Sunday - fished all day. There was a little mist, but the picture speaks for itself - No rough seas at all - not sure what this weekend will bring, but good luck. There was a lot of bait in the water

Last Sunday was the best weather window in weeks. It was glass all the way to 100 miles offshore. But Saturday afternoon was rough, even 10 miles offshore.

Weather changes everyday. This Friday's forecast doesn't look solid to me. I'm wondering why there's a window.

How many gallons of fuel does your boat hold?
300 gallons...I average 1.4mpg devil may care. 2-2.5 at trolling speed. Round trip 150-200 gallons. that leaves a 100 gallons in reserve.

Boston Whaler Outrage 28' 10'4" beam 29' 6" LOA, 600hp, 300 gallons fuel, 40 gallons fresh water. Twin Nss9 evo2's, Chirp, twin Gx2200, G4 Broad Band etc. Thanks for that. It is in conflict with Wind.com. Wind.com is predicting very light winds. Sailflow shows it worse. I will watch the trends. I never go out into diminishing weather.

I was out there last weekend. Went the west end of Catalina route and spent the night at sci. Way to cat was brutal but not too bad after. We burnt 95 gallons doing 15 knots just to get there. Was flat calm on the bank. Make sure you get multi day permits...

I might be going out again this weekend and would probably make squid at pyramid first and head straight out to the big bluefin grounds. Lot of big fish still out there...

I think I know why your sources might've showed there was a window. Conditions up to and including San Clemente Island are, in fact, supposed to be nice on Friday and Saturday:

http://www.fishweather.com/spot/18804

http://marine.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-118.51524&lat=33.17537#.WZ2qrj6GOUk

Friday
Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming WNW 5 to 10 kt in the afternoon. Patchy fog before 11am. W swell 3 ft. Wind waves 1 to 2 ft.

Friday Night
WNW wind 5 to 10 kt becoming variable and less than 5 kt in the evening. Patchy fog after 11pm. W swell 3 ft. Wind waves 1 ft or less.

Saturday

Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming W 5 to 10 kt in the afternoon. Patchy fog before 11am. WNW swell 2 ft. Wind waves 1 ft or less.

Saturday Night
W wind 5 to 10 kt becoming variable and less than 5 kt in the evening. Partly cloudy. WNW swell 2 ft. Wind waves 1 ft or less.

Sunday

W wind 5 to 10 kt. Mostly sunny. W swell 2 ft. Wind waves 1 ft or less.

But once you get past that, it seems that conditions quickly change, especially on Friday: http://www.fishweather.com/spot/639

One of the models on the wind web site does show a small window on Friday and Saturday morning, but the other models don't agree. The window on Saturday also appears to be more calm than the one on Friday. Two models seem to agree that there will be light wind on Saturday morning at the bank.

I'd say your best shot is probably to travel out to San Clemente Island Friday, and expect to spend the night there. Should there be a window on Saturday morning, you could do a quick run. Otherwise you can stick to the island.

Looking forward to your report. Good luck!
I will keep a sharp eye out for the weather and let that determine the go or no go status of a nine hundred dollar venture.........

Wait until fall. Weather dont look right for that run this weekend. But wtf do I know?
I am tending to agree with you at this moment. Intervals are tight, water temp is low. No positive news about any fish out there as of late other than from 'the site who's name cannot be mentioned' on BD. I am Jonesing for some decent time on the water. Sept 24th, I step aboard the Excel for a ten (10) day boat ride, and that is not far off....

I am available all summer and into early fall if you ever need a second eye or to help pay for gas and bait.
Thank you. I will keep that in mind...Ap

Buoyweather says go, NOAA says maybe. Tough call, but I'd go to San Clemente Island for sure, and make a decision there:
