My buddy and I have been wanting to get out for our first trip of the year and get on the yellow tail action. We finally agreed we were due, time to make it happen so took a sick day 6/13 to avoid the weekend crowd. Jumped on the San Diego for the new moon fishing targeting yellow tail at the Coronado Islands. Ended up with a load of 38 anglers underway.

Weather was insanely beautiful as there was minimal swell, and the wind practically non existent. Sun came out early and ended up being a scorcher out there.

South of south island there was an armada waiting for us, 15 boats on a Wednesday? Nothing doing we cruised around looking, was a slow morning. We moved up to the west side of south island and found some bird activity for our first few schools. I went 1 for three on the first few schools, with one going to the dogs and another clean cut, looked like I got rocked. The yellow I lost to the dog was a beast and took a few runs before getting grabbed by the dog 10 feet from the boat. That one hurt, was time for a cold one to shake it off. Think we landed about 15 yellows at the first few schools, 10-15 pounders.

We cruised around south island west and south, up the east side to middle grounds looking for breezer's for the few couple hours for nada. Ended up on the anchor at middle grounds and started picking at some big grumpy calicos up to what was estimated 5-6 pounds? Toads! Then I saw yellows cruising in and everyone was getting hooked up. I went 3 for 3 on the yellows and I think we boated about 80 yellows at that spot. The yellows here were 15-20 with a couple standout 25'ers.

We ended up with 7 between the two of us, sure beats working!

Thanks Ryan for another great day aboard the San Diego. Great crew, new Deckie Charlie was sure working hard as his comrad's were breaking him in to the way of the San Diego. New cook Doug is a cool dude too.

Good luck out there this summer guys.

Nice work. Mid-week is the only way to go if you can swing it.

those are the smallest 15-20 pound fish I have ever seen...

Nice trip all the same but you may want to have your scale calibrated.
