Got down to north island around 7:30 really slow and not a whole lot happening tossed the rapalas in and trolled around, ended up at middle grounds and marked some fish in close. Soaked a couple sardines and within a few minutes hooked up with a yellow, got a good size yellow on the boat in time for things to slow down again. Moved on and checked out South Island, not much happening. tossed the rapalas in again and trolled between 60-80 feet in tight on the weather side of South Island between middle grounds, put two more yellows in the boat. Went searching outside a bit for kelp but didn't find anything. While coming back in towards north island, we were getting waved in by another boat. Thought something might be wrong so swung by to see if everything was alright. Turns out they were headed home and caught their share, but the bite had turned hot at pukey with nobody there. Soaked two sardines on their tip and double hookup! Whoever you are that waved us in, thanks! Finished the day with 5 decent size yellowtail, not too bad. Lost a few to the seal lions, they were relentless. My buddy lost the jackpot right at gaff to a dog that made him work to get it in and took it at the last minute. All good though, good day on the water. Good luck out there!
