First harpoon fish of the season for us. Capt. Johnny Cat and I.

Partial stomach contents of one fish. The one red and a bunch of the squid, hake and lanternfish. The swordy had a bill with the tip worn down from digging rockcod outta the rocks. Last year we had swordies with sandabs in um. Swordies are pigs.

This is a heart of a 300# fish. We had a #750 fish last year. It's heart was massive.

Also saw a dead Risso porpoise with a couple 5' blue dogs eating it. Nice big scallop bites out of it. Dogs were clamping down and shakin off chunks. Pretty cool. Did'nt have my camera up in the tower so no pic.

I'll post more cool shit as it happens.

Thanks Bud! I would have never thought that swordy's root up bottom fish. I knew they fed deep on squid and hake etc., but not the rooting up rockfish and sanddabs...Cool info...

Congrats on the nice fish, thanks for the report. It brings back memories of the sword boat I used to ride on as a kid. Did a few 8-12 day trips to Clemente and I loved it. We fried the fresh hearts and made sandwiches with it once. I never knew they'd dig in the mud but I have seen worn swords and wondered, makes sense. We never had intact fish hit the deck like that, we bled em, and cut the fins and sword off while they were on the boom.
